Error and Restarting Wellbutrin w/ Different Results

Recommended Posts

Hello,

The crappy state run clinic I go to has had there one psychiatrist out for two months now.. Perhaps suspeneded?..who knows.. No one will give out any information as to why.

Anyhow, there are regular nurses there..non-psych who have been responsible for med management along with their regular duties of non-psych patients.

Low and behold my script was screwed up..not once but twice..they couldn't even get it right the second time. So the insurance wouldn't pay for the correct script/dose despite it being the clinics error. Was repeatedly told by the nurse "oh we'll just get a 72 hour emergency approval from the insurance."..That was threee weeks ago. Each time I call I get the response "oh we''ll take care of it and talk to your insurance".

So had to stop Wellbutrin IR 150 mg cold turkey. Not Good, Not Good. I had to suffer because of their incompetency.

So I took it upon myself and paid out of pocket  for some of the script that was on file that insurance wouldn't pay for. I paid $22.00 for five 75mg IR Wellbutrin pills. (Same brand I always got) After being off of it for three weeks restarting it was like taking a placebo..nothing..nothing..the first time I had a immediate response as I was so depressed. I ended up taking 225mgs total and still nothing..nothing.

I'm screwed because this was the only AD that has helped me, and stopping it and restarting it has given me different results.

Why? Why?

Anyone else have this happen?

I'm screwed because of their incompetency..

Crappy irresponsible state clinic..isn't it the patients right to have a psychiatrist to manage their meds?

Thank You,

Meezers

I'm sorry. What a fucking drag.

I had no luck with the Wellbutrin IR.  That is the Immediate Release.  It dumps the med into your body all at once.

From the IR I went to the SR, sustained release, which didn't work either. It is a 12 hour release.  And I always crashed.

The 150 XL is perfect.  Spreads it out throughout the day.

There are many people here who have stopped AD's and then restarted and they don't work the same.

BUT....This depends on how long you were on the initial treatment and what the meds were and your own personal body chemistry.

Let's be positive for now. Can you try the XL or at least the SR?  Can you take the brand -  For some people the brands release method is best.

If you can only keep taking the pills you have now, give yourself some more time.

There is also Aplenzin. That is what I take now. It is still Bupropion, but uses Sodium Bromide, not Chloride. Also, being a different pill, it has a totally different release method.

I take the Aplenzin 522 XL, which is one pill and equal to Wellbutrin 450 xl (which is two pills.)  That would be too high for you, but you could try the Wellbutrin 300 XL or the equivelant in Aplenzin.

(hope this makes sense. I have a lingering shitty migraine.)

Hello,

Yep Water your reply made perfect sense, Thank You.

I did try the Wellbutrin XL 150...this is one the nurse got mixed up w/ TWICE..and gave instead of the IR 75 mg...(yeah the names and numbers sound alike..wtf..)

The XL was insane for me....it's like it all flooded my system at once.....and only for 6 HOURS..??!! then BAM.. crashed and became even more severley depressed than I was Prior to goin on the XL.

Why?

Supp. to be 24 hour.

Hope your migraine disappears.. I feel your pain, I get them as well

Thank you. I used tiger balm right now on my sinuses. I am drowning in tears and it feels great.

WAs it a generic pill?

My cousin took Wellbutrin for YEARS and one day her pharmacy gave her the generic.  Her insurance quit paying for the brand. She crashed big time. BIG TIME.

Like you, she paid out of pocket (canada?) because it was so bad and her insurance company was inflexible. My pdoc writes medically necessary on all my scripts. I take only brands for every pill. It is excessive but I am EXTREMELY sensitive to meds.  I take the lowest dose of everything but my AD's.

All this to say: The generics are only different because of the RELEASE method. This is why you crashed, this is why my cousin crashed. THey do not know how to let the med out little by little throughout the whole day I guess.

Sylvan,

Great advice in dealing with the incompetent staff, Thank You. Although the reality is no one really gives a $hit there..people are herded in and out like cattle there- there are just too many clients for them to deal w/.. plus they need to cover their own a$$es.     Anyway.

Restarting the IR was just like taking nothing. I did feel more depressed from it actually- when it wore off I felt much better.

So yeah I'm screwed.

Thank You,

Meezers
