Geekstreak
My mother has been taking ADs for most of her life, and she'll continue to take them for the rest of it. She's been through CBT and it helped, but she still needs the medication. We're both of the opinion that it's better for her that way. Are you okay? Fiona
Is anyone planning on taking anti-depression drugs for the rest of their life. cause i am. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I very likely will. My pdoc says that my being unmedicated is "a worthy goal, but probably not an achievable one." Fiona
Greenyflower
Crazykid Posted Today, 07:20 AM Is anyone planning on taking anti-depression drugs for the rest of their life. cause i am. I likely will be, too. Pdoc said that I will probably have recurrences, but that the likelihood was much reduced if I stay on the medication. sheismistaken
It is looking like I will be on meds for the rest of my life as well. We should start a club...lol
chimpmaster
Im not sure what my plans are, but my prognosis is that I will be on an ssri type drug indefinitely, and at this stage seroquel indefinitely. Valium as required, though I am getting my usage down to around 2x per week (yay!).

ConfusedCat
Wow good for you Chimp! Yes I most certainly plan on being on my ssri for the rest of my life. Life SUCKS without it. Why would I purposefully want to suck? Ive been on it ten years now, I tried a little diversion this spring and ended up so sorry I even thought of it. Thank God it worked again and made me sane once more. I will not test it again. CC~

dianebea
If a chemical imbalance can't be cured, I guess you'd have to take ADs for life. My mom's been on various ADs for 20 or so years and will be for the rest of her life to combat depression and anxiety. I expect I will, too (for migraines at this point). I don't have a problem with that----as long as I have decent insurance, that is! db
robotlove29
Ummmmmm.....MOST DEFINITELY! I do not, I repeat do not want to go back to life the way it was before. Dysthymia/periods of MDD have been a life long problem for me as well as unbearable anxiety. I cannot manage this crap through meditation or vitamins Mr. Cruise!!! Atropis42
If I find something that works, long term, no more fake-outs and surprises, there's no way in hell I'd give that up. Just my opinion.
ncc1701
Heya, (not on an SSRI, but.) Hated myself off meds. Hate myself less on meds. Plan on this improving from now on. Will never. Never. Never. Never stop taking meds. I wrote a page in my journal and flagged it with a sticker to remind myself *why* I will Never.Stop.My.Meds. --ncc--
Loon-A-TiK
It isn't a matter of planning, it is a matter of hoping. I need to *stay* on drugs for my whole life. Bipolar disorder doesn't go away. Mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, and perhaps SSRIs (can't kick the Paxil "discontinuation") Drugs are just with me to stay. Unless I want to spend my life being between darkness, shooting stars and everywhere in-between.
