Meezers
Hello, Is there any truth that the different forms of Wellbutrin cause more weight loss? Speaking to others I've heard various things..that certain Wellbutrin formulas can actually cause signifigantly more weight loss... That there is indeed a diff. if taking IR, SR, or ,XL. Just curious... Can anyone weigh in with their expereinces with the different formulas and their weight loss? or share their knowledge? Thanks, Meezers
cct
I was on Wellbutrin XL for some time. The first few weeks or so it reduced my appetite, but as my body adapted I didn't see a big change in weight or appetite. Are you concerned that one version may cause you to lose too much weight? If so the best thing to do is to let your doc know about your concerns. If you're looking for info on how to use Wellbutrin for weight loss, this isn't really the best place to ask. We're a support community to help people deal with MI and to make informed decisions about their treatment plans, but we can't offer any advice on off-label use of prescription medications. I don't know if that was your intention. I just wanted to make it clear just in case. And welcome to CB.

melissaw72
I've been on both the short acting and the SR (at different times), and noticed no difference in appetite. And my weight generally stayed the same.
olga
I've been on the SR and XL versions and they have been weight-neutral for me. olga
CirclesOfConfusion
I've been on two different generic brands of the SR version (100, 150, 200, and 300mg at various times) and two different generics of XL (150 & 300mg). I've been on this med at least 4 different times on its own, not including the various times it was taken simultaneously with other meds. I've never noticed any weight gain or loss attributable to WB. But I'm also the same person who responded to your WB side effects thread saying I've never had any lasting side effects either. Just a little bit of startup jitteriness with the SR. As others have said on your several other Wellbutrin threads, it can take weeks for things to reach a steady state chemically. Judging a med based on only a few days or pre-judging it based on anecdotes over the internet have little correlation to what the med may or may not actually do for you. If you are as highly concerned as you seem, you need to consult your doctor(s) for advice specific to your medical history and current situation. Meezers
As I said in my previous Wellbutrin threads I go to a crappy state run clinic in which their one psychaitrist has been out for Two Months. Med management has been handled by non-psych nurses and an MD who wasn't even sure exactly what Wellbutrin was for and at one point said to cut the XL in half. And now as a result of scripts being written wrong..my insurance refuses to cover anything else until One full month has passed since the last script was written. So I am stuck where I am..feeling exhausted, depressed, tired and unmotivated. So Yeah I'm Going To Reach Out To Boards And Look For Information And Support From People Who Don't Have An Attidude. And If They Do Then They Need To Let It Be No Concern Of Theirs In Regards To What I Choose To Do And Where I Look To For Support. And How Much I wish To Post. CirclesOfConfusion
Hey, I'm currently stuck in the crappy place of days and days of hours and hours of hours of unhelpful runaround on the phone trying to get my "special enrollment period" Medicaid application submitted for the third time because my income keeps changing downward and has recently, unexpectedly, become ZERO for the next five weeks. With only five days' notice. I was expecting to start a new contract but it got postponed and nobody informed me until last week. You're not the only one doing battle with your state bureaucracy and your insurance system. The reason I've been on and off so many versions of WB so many different times is constant on/off insurance coverage sometimes forcing me off all meds due to lack of doctor access for unpredictable spans of time. I've spent the last 10 years bouncing between brief contract work-based stints of employer-covered access, COBRA, crappy student insurance, ad hoc pro-bono arrangements, charity organization community care, and so on. Constantly seeking new prescribing doctors while also constantly seeking piecemeal contract work (and often getting neither) is exhausting and frustrating and means I still don't even have a defined Dx yet to aim med decisions at. I'm not saying that to negate you. And I'm not playing the Suffering Olympics crap. I wrote all that to say I understand the frustration with getting insufficient care and answers from the professional entities you're dealing with. Yesterday I spent the second half of that day's phone call hell crying from frustration. I totally empathize that your situation sucks. Mine does too. Enough that when I get a kind stranger on the phone that actually does help loosen the insurance tangle, I cry harder. But that also doesn't change the fact that there are major limitations to what any of us can ask for or provide over the Internet. It is also hard to follow all the details of your Wellbutrin issue when they get scattered over several simultaneous threads.
Meezers
Still waiting on a 72 Hour Emergency Refill and submission of prior authorization papers promised by the incompetent nurse who screwed my script up twice. As result of her errors insurance absolutely refuses to pay for anything for another full month. That Was Three Weeks Ago. "It is also hard to follow all the details of your Wellbutrin issue when they get scattered over several simultaneous threads." Then Don't Read Any Of My Posts Anymore.
