ahalo
My pdoc is unhappy about prescribing me clonazepam for anxiety, so I'm looking at APs. What has been most effective for some of you for anxiety and at what dose? I'm just curious... My social anxiety has been helped by Effexor XR. But I get general waves of anxiety that are crippling, along with onset panic attacks that I can control but are bothersome in my life. I also can be very moody and an AP might help with that. Tried 5 mg Abilify a day and saw no change in anxiety, though my mood seemed somewhat more stable. Thanks!!!

Bohemian
Zyprexa and Seroquel would be at the top of my list. I had the best results on Zyprexa. I was at 30mg though, rx'ed for psychosis, not anxiety. And, I'm also on two benzos, so I don't know how helpful I've been. Overall, you want a sedating AP - so Seroquel and Zyprexa come to my mind. With Seroquel - the lower the dose, the better, but not too low (50-100mg), because, that will most likely knock you out. With Zyprexa, 5mg should cover it. Let me know... Best, Chris

Fiona
I've found Seroquel incredibly useful for managing background anxiety. I don't have enough to qualify as any kind of anxiety disorder, but when I'm depressed I am more anxious. Sroquel has helped me manage that. And it's really helped at the intrusive thoughts, negative "voices," and because of that my concentration. I don't have any negative side effects from it -- once you reach a high enough dose it stops being sedating, so I take doses during the day without falling over asleep. antipeople
I'm on .5mgs of Risperdal, and it does wonders for my anxiety, particularly my obsessing about social situations.

Loon-A-TiK
I take this beta-blocker (Indrel sp?) for tremors from Seroquel, and I think THAT is what beats my anxiety down go a bloody pulp. It could be the Seroquel too, I take them together so I can't be sure. But I know that my GAD is GONE! Intrusive thoughts GONE (for sure the Seroquel). I take day doses and it doesn't make me tired. I take 200mg at night and that doesn't make me tired. I don't know- i'm not a pdoc, but if anxiety is a huge issue, you may want to try Indrel or Indrel with an AP, maybe Seroquel. It is pretty mild compared to Zyoprexa. I was given an IV with Zyprexa to calm my manic ass down in the hospital once, and at least from that one dose, I can say it is pretty powerful stuff. peace! loon
ncc1701
Heya, Loon -- how long have you been on Inderal (propranolol)? I'm thinking about this for anxiety, but don't see my psychiatrist for a couple of weeks. Ahalo -- I haven't tried *anything* for anxiety yet, although it's clear I will. I would consider antipsychotics for sure, seeing what people have said on the boards and what I've learned from various docs. Have you or your docs come up with anything? --ncc--
Atsiv
Seroquel takes care of crippling anxiety for me. I'm 800mg now but I saw good anxiety effects at 400 mg.
