tnladywolfe
I was diagnosed BP type 2 a year ago. It's been a long year. I have not told anyone but my husband, who doesn't believe that Bipolar is a illness. So I have no support at all and that at times drives me crazy cause I can't talk to anyone about this. I have researched this till I'm blue in the face and eyes tired from all the reading I have been doing. I am on lamtical 200mg but I don't like it cause it is causing physical side affects and that my doctor won't listen to me on. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr to him and that is why I am trying to find another doctor. I just now switched pdocs cause the first one that I had had the personality of a wall. I have a great fear with taking meds for this and that is I don't want to be a long list of meds. I also have a disable daughter who is also bipolar and so taking care of her and myself without help is hard. I have almost screamed at the state, for my daughter, for help with her. No one is hearing me. Right now I am just a bundled up mess of confusion. I don't know what my triggers are or if I even have any. I want something different then Lamtical but I have looked at the other meds and I don't think I will like those either. Too many side affects. I am a bit of a health nut so I wasn't so keen on the idea of going on meds in the first place and still not but it is what it is for now. This has made me rethink that foods I eat, where it comes from and what is in it. As much as I can I have done a lifestyle change because of my illness. If you have questions just let me know. So hi this is just me.
olga
Welcome to Crazyboards! I ask all new members to read the rules, just so you understand how we operate. I hope that the information in the Bipolar forum will be helpful to you. Not all meds have drastic side effects: I am taking an antidepressant that has given me NO side effects at all. I hope you can find a psychiatrist who will work with you to find a medication that helps you without causing ill effects. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy hanging out with us. olga
Crodentia
Welcome to CB. I'm Crodentia, Bipolar I Disorder here. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time, between your husband's ignorance and your doctor's incompetence. It's great that you're educating yourself, though; often I have found it is necessary for me to be my own greatest advocate. I had to make lifestyle changes as well because my medications have definitely changed how my body reacts to different things. I am an advocate of reasonable, necessary medications; I believe you can't effectively fight bipolar without medication (that is my personal opinion that I am very adamant about). I do hope you're able to find wisdom here from the other forum members, and I definitely hope your situation with your doctors and family improves soon. I don't have children, so I can't imagine what that's like to raise a daughter with bipolar when you yourself have it. You sincerely have my hopes and prayers. Phoenix_Rising
Hello and Welcome! As olga and crodentia mentioned, there are many meds you can take that have minimal side effects. It sounds like you do need to seek out a new psychiatrist. I'm sure it is very difficult advocating for both yourself and your daughter. It would be nice if your husband were willing to go to therapy with you so he could learn about Bipolar Disorder. You might want to check out this book. Good for you for researching your illness.
