Walterwhite10
Hello all I'm a 19 year old male living in Australia. I have gotten insomnia since I graduated from school last year. However it's been on and off since then. I got perscribed to avanza in March and I took 15mg a night that sent me to sleep for a while, but that stopped working a while ago. I just got pushed to 30mg a week ago and it still made no change. Just got pushed to 60mg yesterday and still didn't really knock me out. But since mid-May, my insomnia has been the worst. I have had at least one sleepless night per week since. During mid-may I went 2 nights without sleep. I went to my GP and he put me on temezapam 10mg. That still did nothing. So I went back to him and he thought about clonazepam, but since I was going to see my psychiatrist, the GP thought he'd let he psychiatrist decide. So psychiatrist put me on mogadon. So last night I took my medications, 60mg of avanza and half a tablet of Mogadon. Noticed 2 hours later I was still awake and don't know why. Felt a little tired but not like temezapam made me feel a little heavy headed. So I took my other half of Mogadon. Guess what?? Still no change!! At 3am I started to feel more awake in a way. I was up until at least 4am... Then woke up around 8:30am. And I feel fine after 4 and a half hours sleep. I do have anxiety and depression. But most nights It goes away and I feel better when i take my medication, or that I went to go to talk to the pyschiatrist. I was feeling quite happy and really really calm last night and I just couldn't fall asleep! And this this is the only thing that seems to help me is lorezapam, and that's not my medication. It's my mums medication. I take the medication behind her back. Only a quarter would knock me out, then a half, and recently only a full one seems to knock me out. She doesn't like me taking this medication, i haven't told my GP or psychiatrist about lorezapam because my mum says not too. Today i woke up feeling with a little hangover, then I had a cup of coffee and felt better. I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel fine when i go to bed, I'm very comfortable, relaxed and calm, I'm basically having zero caffeine (that was my first coffee in a while) not being on my ipad or iphone hours before bed etc. I've also tried all these other things, yes warm drinks, relaxation music, sleep hypnosis, concentrating on breathing, counting blah blah... It doesn't WORK for me I just don't get it.. It's like I can be awake for days. But stuff gets bad if I have a sleepless night. If someone can please help me.. When I take these tablets it's like they do nothing so it's like I'm taking a piece of candy or something.
dancingteapot
It's a trial and error thing I would make a suggestion to your pdoc and tell him that ativan might work You don't have to tell him you took it behind his/her back...just suggest it For me, I take trazodone and klonopin (and if it's significant an ambien too) Try not to get frustrated and I hope things will work out for you
melissaw72
I would bring this up with your psychiatrist. There are so many sleep meds out there you could try.

Wooster
I'm sure you're already doing the "sleep hygiene" thing, but just in case you aren't here are some pointers to help give you the best fighting chance of getting a good night's sleep: -get up at the same time every day, even if you slept like crap and are tired -if you must nap, keep it short and before 3pm -make your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. Use something to generate white noise if needed. -keep the bed for sleeping and sex only... no reading (unless it's really, really boring), working on computers, etc. -no screens of any sort in bed -no screens at least an hour before bed -try using a screen dimmer/shifter that changes the color of your screen to more blue in the morning and more red in the evening. -develop a regular bedtime routine where you do the same things in the same order every night. Your body will start to pick up on the cues and start feeling sleepy eventually. -limit your caffeine during the day, and pick a cut off point sometime between noon and 4pm after which there is no more caffeine -limit your alcohol to moderation. For adult men, that's no more than 2 drinks a day. Alcohol might make you feel a little sleepy, but it actually disrupts sleep more in the long run. -take your bedtime meds, and get in bed. Lay down and close your eyese. Even if you don't feel like you are sleeping, you are still getting quiet rest, and sometimes that's as good as it gets -get a moderate amount of physical activity during the day (minimum 30 minutes anything that makes you break a sweat), try to keep it early enough in the day that it doesn't interfere with going to sleep. I used to have a horrible time getting to and staying asleep. None of the sleep meds really helped because I was too keyed up with anxiety and hypervigilance to really let them take effect. I fought them, even though I knew I was taking them to try to help me sleep. I hope you find some things that are helpful. Oh... the other thing that REALLY helped for me was acupuncture. mcjimjam
I would just come clean to your psychiatrist that you tried your mums lorazepam and it worked. It is similar to Mogadon so your doc will probably be happy to change you over.

I ended up taking 75mg over one night and got no sleep at all so That doesn't do it for me either. Haha thanks, I'm a big fan of breaking bad. I'll see if I can go on lorezapam or clonazepam. Walterwhite10
I don't understand this at all. Took mogadon 5MG at 9:30pm last night. Probably took an hour to half an hour to kick in. Then i started to feel real drowsy, but i couldn't really fall asleep. I was getting up a few times so maybe that could be i? Soon as it started to wear off a little, that's when i fell asleep. It only ever seems to be around 3-5am. Then i woke up about 9am or 9:30am. I don't know what else to do here...
Wooster
*wonders if you read and judiciously applied all the sleep hygiene ideas above since the only people who got acknowledged were talking about meds instead of things to try yourself*

GrayEyes777
I take Trazodone on a nightly basis, and if that doesn't cut it I will add a little bit of Xanax. Because I rarely take the Xanax (I guess?), the duo works like a charm for me every time. Definitely tell your pdoc - that's what they're there for. All pdocs know how important sleep is for us to survive in this world.
