Level_With_Me
I was dx w/schizophrenia when I was 18. Around the time I was 22 I had a GP prescribe me some Adderall. I was convinced I was ADD and still do to this day. Ok long story short one night I exceeded the max dose on purpose for pleasure. Stay with me.....I know it was dumb, and I had to be taken to the hospital because I flipped out. Now this incident is on my record. Does this necessarily mean I am blacklisted from stims? melissaw72
I think it depends. You might get another chance, but it really depends on your pdoc. Personally mine would probably give me a week at a time worth of meds if I took too many of one pill where it landed me in the ER.
Level_With_Me
Thank you for your replies. My pdoc is at a clinic that doesn't treat ADD so I would have to get a personal specialist. I would inform my current pdoc that I would be doing so as well. Thank you Sylvan and melissaw
writehellarandomshiny
I'd chime in with being open and honest. If you aren't open and honest and they find out, that wouldn't be good. So I'd be open and honest and hope for the best. Edited June 18, 2014 by writehellarandomshiny
Mirazh
I'd inform my doctor. I am always honest with my medical providers. That being said, some doctors have bad attitudes. I've opened up about past (ex-) recreational drug use and basically ended up being labelled a drug seeker and denied diagnosis and treatment. But my regular GP and my personal psychiatrist aren't like that so I'm very open with them. I have a history of abusing drugs, for over a decade, including recreational use of Dexedrine which wasn't prescribed to me. I'm now happily and properly medicated on Dexedrine without a single problem. I keep my pdoc in the loop of everything. It really depends on the doc. If possible, yeah, it's really really helpful to be treated by a specialist in ADHD - especially one experienced in treating with medications. In the ADHD forum on the 'ADHD resources' list I appended a bunch of links to various ADHD websites around parts of the English-speaking word, through them you might be able to find links to local specialists who are taking on new patients, if money and/or insurance wise that is a possibility for you. It took me almost several years to finally get a specialist who treats my ADHD properly like I deserve.
