Unstrung Harp
Here ya go http://www.crazyboards.org/forums/index.php/topic/68311-brintellix-is-anyone-else-actually-taking-this/page-55#entry775396 This kind of made me chuckle, given that it's sort of the Thread that Ate New York at this point. jacsan -- I have been on it since January to mostly good effect. Was up to 20mg for several months, but recently backed it down to 15 mg to try to deal with some irritability that I've been having. Pdoc mentioned that he's seem some other patients experiencing irritability, though I'm not convinced that's solely my problem. The good news is I've had more energy and been cognitively sharper, and my mood and anxiety in general is much improved from my previous cocktail. So other than the possible irritability, it's been activating in a good way for me. No sleep issues whatsoever for me, and I take it at night. The more relevant issue may be your needing to take it with food to mitigate nausea, which seems at least for a few weeks to be an issue with a lot of people. Also, constipation, at least initially, seems to be a common problem, so have your soluble fiber and lots of water on standby. Good luck.
crtclms
I'm going to move this to antidepressants.
HeidiHeidiHo
I'm interested in hearing more about this drug. Brintellix is my current plan B (which really should be plan N) if the Saphris I just got put on yesterday doesn't work. I was a little leery about Brintellix because I haven't had much luck with anti-depressents and it's so new. Would love to hear how people are doing on it. CindyStro
I've been on Brintellix for a little over a month now, 10 mgs. It takes about 2.5 to 3 days before you start to feel it.I had sleep problems (major) on the 3rd night. I take it around 12:00 noon. Now the sleep issues have gotten better, but I'm taking 20 mgs of melatonan ,a bendryl and a unisom every night..and still not sleeping that great. I have also flat lined on this med. as far as helping my major depression issues. 10 mgs DOES seem to make me calmer and handle stress better. So today I started on 20 mgs. So far ok...although this afternoon the room was spinning when I got up...Prob. my seritonan levels moving up...worried about more sleep issues...I hope 20 mgs will get me more motivated and moving...I feel like a sloth...no ambition...If this doesnt work, I'm thinking of going back on adderall if I can...New shrink...see the assistant...she cant prescribe Sh*T w/out me seeing the shrink, which takes who knows how many weeks to get in to see... So wish me luck and Ill be following along to see how others are doing on this...If anyone has gone from 10 mgs to 20mgs would you let me know if its made a difference long term for you ? Thanks...Cindy
Qbey
Hi, I have been on the 10 mg for about 6 weeks. Reading through that other thread I seem to be the only one who doesn't love this med. I am not having any of these calming feelings at all. I have been anxious and irritable. I'm feeling about the same (maybe worse) than I was before ever going on meds at all! I've been on meds for over 3 years now...still taking Lamictal 300 mg/day and Klonopin 0.5 mg BID...I should note that I weaned off of Zoloft while transitioning to Brintellix...so initially I was blaming everything on Zoloft withdrawals. However, the Zoloft has been completely gone for about 3 weeks now and that [wretched] withdrawal seems to have subsided....but still nothing is happening from the Brintellix. Things I 'have' noticed: 1. At first I thought I was more awake and more focused at work...but now I am back to being sleepy. 2. Constipation. Still have it. 3. Feeling hungry. I had basically lost all appetite and had no interest in eating on my previous cocktail, but I have been very hungry over the past few weeks. Thankfully, I could stand to gain a few pounds (I'm pretty thin), but that doesn't mean I want to! 4. This may be TMI, but I now have libido...THAT had been gone for years. Had I stopped Zoloft 2 years ago, I would probably not be single! *Note: I am counting this as a negative side effect, because now I am depressed about being single. 5. Feelings. They came back. I don't like it. I had been enjoying my fog of not caring. So...basically...I can't stop eating, but can't poo...and I am wide awake with plenty of time to think about all of these feelings that I don't want to have...whilst being depressed that I have a sex drive and nothing to do with it. Ha! PS - Apparently, I am also the only one who didn't get the nausea. This is a plus. The nausea seems to be a terrible side effect for some people. Funny, how we all react so differently. Cheers! -Q
Stripes
I started taking Brintellix in January after being off meds for a looooooong time. I felt good, but had terrible diarrhea (very little nausea, btw). Dr switched me to Lamotrigine after about two months b/c the diarrhea was so distressing. At the end of April I stopped taking the oral birth control Amethyst as I realized it was causing side effects. In May Dr put me back on 5mg Brintellix b/c he thought maybe it was interacting with the Amethyst. So, since May I've sloooooowly titrated up from 5mg to about 12mg now. I take 10mg one night, then 15mg the next. Sure enough, the diarrhea is back. I am disappointed b/c I do feel better. I can actually "see" my thought process improving and becoming clearer. I think in terms of when not if. I've been on lots of diff meds--SSRI, SNRI, Tri-cyclics, I've never had this side effect. Anyone else have it? What can I do? Thanks. mcjimjam
Have you tried Immodium? Ask your pharmacist or doctor if it's okay first. Your body might acclimate to the Brintellix eventually, so you could use Immodium in the mean time.
jdcooper
I just started this med and its been really good for my overall mood; interest in activities and hobbies; socializing more; don't feel like taking a nap in the middle of the day for no reason anymore. I am praying this lasts-its only been 9 days. Abilify had a wonderful effect too but it only lasted a few months. Having no gastro problems at all. On 10 mgs. Weaning off of Paxil. WantMeBack2
I just started today taking 10 mg of Brintellix, after tapering off of the 10 mg of Lexapro I had been taking for 6 years. The Lexapro apparently just stopped working for both my depression and anxiety. I went into major depression with anxiety attacks and suicidal thoughts (had never had those before - very scary). My pdoc suggested B. Very interested in anyone who has taken it and had good results with similar situation? The only other meds I'm taking is Clonazepam for when I get panic attacks. But I'm not sleeping very well. I'll report back with my progress - have only slight nausea 3 hours after taking it with lunch. thank you for sharing, and wishing everyone peace, health, and freedom from depression and anxiety. Mbarn83
On 10 mg of brintellix and 150 of effexor. Neither one alone made me feel as good as I do now. Still have some repetitive thoughts but it's manageable. Definitely have more energy and not as much brain fog.

browri
I started on this several months ago at 5mg and slowly titrated up to 20mg which was about 4 weeks ago. I'm only in the past 1 to 2 weeks finally starting to feel like this med is here to stay. Wasn't completely sold on it until I got to 20mg.
