unsanity
Hello everyone, I'm a student from the UK, 21 years old, currently suspended from my studies due to mental health reasons. I have been diagnosed as bipolar 'disorder' (II suspected, but not confirmed). I had a psychotic episode about 6 months ago which was brought this all to the forefront. I'm currently taking lorazepam & seroquel for the bipolar, and several other medications for a heart condition. I'm conscious to try and not let my disorder 'define' me, if you know what I mean, although it increasingly feels like it does, which is frustrating. I'm just hoping to get things back on track and get on with my life, and hopefully I can use this forum to ask other people questions, and help others who are going through similar to me. Nice to meet you all!

ovOidampUle
Was your psychotic episode brought on by taking anti-depressants? That was my first clue I might be bipolar. Mood stabilizers have been much more helpful.

Jaycee
Hi Unsanity, ive been diagnosed with bd2 aswell around 3 months ago, currently on Wellbutrin 300 as well as Epitec, i believe it is known as Lamotrigine, im currently slowly upping the dosage every 2 weeks to prevent some major side effects, also taking bromazepam for anxiety. All of this is extremely new to me as I always thought of myself as an average person with the same feelings and emotions as everyone else, well after years of nagging from my wife and aunt, and a few times of derailing off the tracks, I went to see a pdoc. I have been on SSRI's for around 4 or 5 years and so just reconed he would just say im mildly depressed or something as my gp had said those many years ago. So as you can imagine my surprise when diagnosed with bp2. I to am rather unsure of what this will mean for me and how it will affect my life. One thing that really gives me comfort is reading posts from people who are going through similar things to me. Ive also started councilling and hopefully this will also help as I feel like I have been "labelled" by close friends and family. Sorry, im also venting quite a bit aswell, just be assured that you are not alone in the fight.

I was suffering from pretty severe depression/ insomnia/ erratic thinking before hand but it wasn't until I begam taking citalopram that it rapidly developed into persecutory delusional thinkng. Thankfully I saw a psychiatrist very quickly and was taken off it & put on seroquel which quickly helped.
