Hoosier_Student
I have recently went from 100mg Seroquel to 300mg. While this has helped my symptoms somewhat, I still have noticed some anxiety and depression. I meet with my pdoc soon and I am wondering if going up to 400mg of Seroquel would be helpful. Part of me is a little apprehensive because that dose is getting into bipolar and schizophrenic territory ( and hence greater chance of side effects). However, I just want this fucking anxiety and depression to be gone - if 400mg would help, I'll take it. So I'm wondering if Seroquel has a dose dependent effect on anxiety as depressions? Would going up make much of a difference?
Wonderful.Cheese
I take 700mg of seroquel. I find it helps my anxiety and my sleep and psychosis and BP moods. When do you take it and how often? For instance I take it 3 times a day rather than only at night for better control of anxiety/other symptoms. I take 200mg AM and 100mg afternoon and 400mg at bedtime. Maybe you could ask your pdoc if you could take some during the day if you aren't already. I hope this helps.
San
Seroquel can be very helpful with depression and anxiety. At 400mg, you're still at a moderate dose, you can go up to 800mg a day, some people are on even more (at one point I took 300mg or Seroquel XR 3 times a day for a total of 900mg). It acts as a mood stabilizer and can really help depression when combined with an antidepressant. So don't worry about "going into schizophrenia or bipolar territory". Everyones body is different and reacts in a different way. Are you on Seroquel XR or regular Seroquel? Seroquel XR is the extended release version and can be beneficial with anxiety, as it lasts much longer. It won't knock you straight out, and often, if you take it at supper (or around 5pm) you'll feel the effects and it will help you sleep by the time you go to bed. I found it a lot better than just plan Seroquel. However, regular Seroquel is helpful as well. It is likely a dose increase to 400mg can help with depression and anxiety. What other medications do you take? Some antidepressants help more with anxiety than others, such as Luvox, Lexapro and Cymbalta. Those are approved for anxiety, OCD and whatnot. Seroquel is a very versatile drug and does much more than help psychosis and bipolar episodes. It's a great med. Talk to your doc about the benefits of XR vs instant release, and what medications you take with it.
Hoosier_Student
I'm also taking venlafaxine (effexor), but I haven't noticed it doing much.
december_brigette
you can always ask your pdoc. and mention what you have said here. I've taken seroquel 2 times in my life. Once many years ago and now again kicking and screaming (mostly due to a weight issue that I was having before I even started it a second time). My pdoc prefers that I take seroquel when I feel like I'm going "bananas." i.e anxious to the point that my anxiety has anxiety. I do have an rx for xanax but he will not give me more and I respect that. We are also working around the weight issue. Better to ask than not, right? Good Luck!! db
Hoosier_Student
I saw my pdoc this morning, and we decided to go up to 400mg Seroquel. If this doesn't work, he'll consider switching to another medicine after a few weeks. Here's hoping to me going into remission!
