Hi there, I'm new to this site (a little over a week) and was just diagnosed bipolar type ii (this week actually, after a rough two weeks suspecting that might be up and just waiting for the pdoc appointment). I just started Lamotrigine and I'm hopeful about that.

I have always been up and down with moods, more on the euphoric/hypomanic end as a kid/teenager as far as I can remember, with depression getting more disruptive into college and young adulthood (I'm 25 now). I'd sought treatment (CBT and medication) before for depression. So this time when the depression got bad, I sought out medication and treatment again, and this time the medication (5-HTP) put me on an emotional rollercoaster and it was awful. Last fall I'd had what I understand now to be a hypomanic episode where I felt extremely euphoric, inspired, intense, and like I was just on the cusp of something that would make me famous or the CEO of where I work or something like that. I laugh now because I had this sense of urgency the whole time like I knew it wasn't going to last if I didn't get the ball rolling. Guess I knew myself better than I thought?

Anyway, this site has been super helpful, and the members so supportive, I really appreciate it. My friends and husband have been very supportive these past few weeks, so I'm doing OK with everything. The two things I'm worried about are my family (who, when I mentioned going to the pdoc and why thought I was just being too hard on myself and not recognizing my own brilliance *facepalm*), and also wondering whether or not I should talk to my boss because I feel like I did some fairly significant damage to various work relationships last fall during my episode.

Nice to meet you all, and would love any tips about talking to family/employers. :)

Welcome to Crazyboards.  I ask all new members to read the rules, unless you've already done that.

We have a forum dealing with employment---I think it would be a good idea to ask your question about your boss there.  For the family issues, you could post a topic in the Family Feud forum.  Members with similar experiences will be more likely to see your posts there. (Not everyone reads the introduction forum).

Anyway, I'm glad you're here and let us know if there is anything you don't understand.
