Put on Lexapro - I don't even know what to feel

Recommended Posts

My whole mental health deal has been a huge fiasco from july 2013 to january 2014, 4 hospitalizations, 2 IOP/partial hospitalizations, and every med you can think of (except the good ones)

I've been on 10mg of focalin, 150mg of wellbutrin sr and 300mg of seroquel (supposed to be daily, I just take it when I cant sleep) and .2mg clonidine. I stopped the wellbutrin myself a few weeks ago because I couldn't stand the taste of cigarettes and lack of nicotine buzz. Well, yesterday my PDOC put me on lexapro. The last SSRI I remember was prozac, and it made me feel like I was on dxm all the time, faces looked differenct. everything felt weird, etc.

So, its day 2, and I don't know what I feel. Maybe a little bit more foggy in the head and more relaxed, cause usually when I go on my focalin binges I'm alot more wired up then I am now.

Anyone feel good on this shit?

You are being extremely non-compliant with meds. It's not really a wonder why you were hospitalized four times in the span of a few months. Does your pdoc know you don't take Seroquel as directed? Does he know that you go on Focalin binges? Does he know you've gone off Wellbutrin?

You need to take your meds as directed and quit abusing Focalin. You are the reason why the rest of us have a hard time getting controlled substances when we need them. Also, not having a nicotine buzz is not a reason to go off a med.

You will never get better if you don't follow your pdoc's treatment plan.

I want to also say that we are a pro-treatment site. That means we believe in taking meds as directed. If you are looking for someone to tell you how to better abuse meds, you've come to the wrong place.

My focalin abuse is something I'm trying to stop, I was addicted to meth for a long long time, the focalin helped me quit, but I still have addictive tendencies. I'm taking the lexapro as prescribed. I'm also probably going to be posting in the addictions forum. I'm not trying to be pro-abuse or triggering, I hate having this crutch.

I'm glad you are trying to stop the Focalin abuse, and I appreciate the clarification. I encourage you to take the Seroquel as prescribed. With regard to Lexapro, you have to give it up to six weeks before you will feel better. It can cause some mental fog in the beginning, but that goes away soon enough.

What's your diagnosis?

From this doctor, Bipolar I with schizoaffective traits (or without? I don't remember.) , ADHD, and depression.

My past doctors all agreed on ADHD and depression, but myself, I think I have anhedonia and schizoid personality disorder.

JMHO, get honest with your treatment plan.  You say you used Focalin to help quit methamphetamine, but you've just switched one addiction out for another.  Have you gone through formal substance abuse treatment?  You might benefit from a co-occuring disorders treatment plan (substance abuse and mental health).  Find a treatment agency that will specialize in that is a good first step.  If you're in the US, SAMHSA maintains a large database of chemical dependency and mental health treatment providers that are searchable by location and specialty.

BusuB has an excellent suggestion. As far as anhedonia goes, it can result from any one of your diagnoses or it can also result from meth abuse. You really should try to stop abusing Focalin to give your brain a chance to recover. Also, if there is any suggestion of Bipolar I or Schizoaffective, then you really do need the Seroquel. Please reconsider taking it as prescribed.
