water
One of my favorite all time escapist novels and it is very good too. I have now listened to the whole series on tape at least five times. Only buy the audio book with Davina Porter as the reader. (There is a new show on Cinemax. I am afraid to watch it I admit. But it is starting with Outlander.) I won't say anymore, don't want to give the story away. If you know nothing about it, make sure you don't find anything out until you read the book. It was wonderful reading without knowing a thing. I guess we should have until.......the middle of September? I can discuss this book at any time so let us know when you are finished. Yay!!
electricbamboo
I'm in! I've been wanting to read this book.

water
I am not in any hurry. I have plenty of books to read. Right now reading Joyce Carol Oates, The Falls. It is soooo good. Anyway, take your time. I know this book inside out. :-}
olga
I'm with water: I'm reading Washington Irving for my class, so let us know when you're ready. I don't know how many times I've read and listened to Outlander. Jamie. sigh olga

water
Damn it... why is this book so rapey?!? I;m sorry. :{
Wooster
I guess it's just a fact, eh? I don't like that fact... that women, all over the world, are more subject to rape during times of armed conflict. But even when not in times of armed conflict, it seems that men thought they had license to access women's bodies in 18th century Scotland more than I would prefer. olga
I haven't read Outlander in a while. I don't remember Claire being raped. hmmmmm......I guess I block things out. Anyway, Woo, I agree with you, of course. The day that women all over the world can control what is done to their bodies will be a very happy day. I won't live to see it, but I hope that it happens some day. olga
Wooster
It's more the continual threat of sexual violence that I'm referring to, olga... whether from the drunken clansmen in the castle after the oath taking, or Jamie's sister, or Claire being rescued in the nick of time at the fort, etc.
olga
Oh, gotcha. The "nick of time" stuff is hard. I really should get out my copy and re-read Outlander (for the 6th or 7th time.... ) It goes without saying that I own the entire series in hardcover. olga
Wooster
I bet you have the good stuff dog-eared!
Wooster
Finished the book... *sigh* not just women, sadly. But still a marvel of a book. I'm diving right into the next one. They're sneaky and put a preview of book 2 on the end of book 1 so now I'm hooked all over again.
olga
I bet you have the good stuff dog-eared! She is one of the few authors I have ever read who writes about sex in a sexy way, and it's MARRIED sex!!! heh I love that it's not pornographic at all. Gabaldon is one smart cookie. My friend Doris has just moved and she's in the throes of unpacking and trying to fit a large number of possessions into a small condo. She has Starz, and she told me that every night she is watching an episode as her reward for working hard all day. She tells herself "Tonight I can escape to 18th-century Scotland." Has anyone else read 'Outlander?' olga
malachite
I am reading it right now!
