anon0422
So I have anxiety, and my gdoc (I'm in between pdocs) is prescribing 1mg of Ativan. Does anyone have any experience with Ativan and can tell me if it made them sleepy?
malachite
It made me sleepy initially, and briefly. Within a little while, it no longer did. Good luck!
discomposed
Yes it can and likely will make you feel sleepy at first. That will reduce with continued use. I can take 0.5mg in emergencies and be able to function, but still feel a little tired and out of it. If I take 1mg, I can struggle to keep myself awake as necessary but it's a real fight. At 2mg I'm out dead for twelve hours plus. Even at the smallest doses, once I do fall asleep after taking the Ativan I will sleep straight through for eight hours, attempt to wake up, sleep for another couple hours, and feel pretty much hungover the entire day. Try to start using it at a time when you don't have too many difficult tasks or important things you'll need to remember happening. It can also cause memory loss and almost this feeling of being drunk, so you know: don't drive or work with sharp tools, write down important things, etc. If you find yourself enjoying the Ativan too much, feeling like you want to take more than is prescribed or taking it before you're scheduled to have one, talk to your doctor. Ativan can be abused for its sedative effects. Also, don't keep it sitting out where others can see it, as family members and friends and strangers have this tendency to pilfer this type of drug when you're not looking. smac84
I can take 2 mg of Ativan and it makes me more alert... I think it is because of regular use and grown immunity to it. Good luck
anon0422
Thanks. I took my first dose of Ativan today and don't feel at all tired.
AnxiousAmy
It can go both ways for me. Generally in the day time if I have anxieties bothering me I find I gain more energy from the lift in my mood. At night time, when I take my olanzapine too, it can make me tired. I take a 1mg dose prn.
iaawal
Nope. Doesn't affect me at all. The xanax used to make me tired though. A girl I was IP with told me after I told her I wasn't sure if they had given me ativan with my cocktail. She said "if you took ativan, you'd know it" meaning I'd be tired as heck. werehorse
Ativan is lorazepam, right? If so then it's what they give me IP and it usually does make me sleep for a couple of hours, though sometimes I need 2mg if I'm very agitated. crtclms
My husband used to get 2mg pills because it was to prevent (hahahaha) seizures. I used to take one of his occasionally for super bad headaches, and for some reason, it really helped. My pdoc and ndoc were both okay with it, but weren't sure how it worked either. But it doesn't make me tired. My husband is in a med trial with a new med that is keeping his seizures to maybe once every 6 weeks (SNOOPY DANCE!), so he doesn't get lorezapam anymore.
