agreatwind
I started taking Cymbalta 60MG about two years ago for extreme hypochondria, OCD, anxiety. It solved those pretty darn well, but I am close to calling it quits or switching medications due to some severe side effects. I have basically become a eunuch...have no sexual drive, no sexual sensation, inability to climax (these are common as detailed on this forum...I wasn't surprised at this). The one I am curious about is I seem to experience extreme lethargy. I "need" ten hours of sleep a day. Any less and I am basically useless. I never really want to get out of bed. I'm not particularly depressed but not happy either (whatever that means). I have very little ambition or drive (historically I would say I had an above average amount of each). My question is, has anyone else experienced extreme lethargy on Cymbalta? Sometimes it is hard to separate your "self" pre and post medication (like I said it has been two years). I was never a hyper busy bee type, but I definitely don't remember feeling like an unmotivated, fatigued, useless meat sack, either. I suppose I just want to make sure it is right to point the finger at the medication before making a big change. Routine Google searches reveal lethargy is a listed side effect, but I haven't found any specific stories detailing the type of effects I have experienced (at least to a great degree). Any insight would be great. If so, did you find a medication that kept anxiety in check with fewer side effects?
olga
Lethargy is the reason I had to get off Cymbalta. It worked pretty well as an antidepressant for me, and I was on it for almost a year. At the end, I was sleeping 9 and 10 hours a night, plus napping during the day. I am usually a high-energy person, so it was weird to feel so lethargic. I hated to give it up because I had the aches and pains common to a middle-aged person, and Cymbalta really minimized them. In the end, I just didn't want to feel like a zombie any more. I did not experience the sexual side effects you mentioned. That happened to me when I was trying SSRIs, but not Cymbalta. Maybe it's time to talk to your psychiatrist about making a med change. olga
nonuser
All antidepressants make me sleepy, and Cymbalta seems to be no different. I'm definitely lazy and unmotivated but I don't think that is the med, lol. All I can say is talk to your doc. Different meds work differently on people.
