RUright
I have what I call situational depression/anxiety/insomnia. In lay terms, when I get like this, I process a solution to a problem in my brain quickly, and can't understand why others are moving so slowly to correct something, when the solution is immediate and obvious to me. That is the overall feeling, combined with a ruminating habit regarding my current issues. My current issues is the (situational) part. Right now; that is being out of work, (anger, frustration) and on the verge of eviction (fear). I am a pretty good researcher and have an above average I.Q., stupid things just get to me. I went to my G.P. last week and usually get his P.A. (almost a Dr.). This pleases me because they are more in tune with current meds and my G.P. is in his 80’s (don’t really trust him anymore). With my current symptoms, I asked for Depakote (Gabapentin) because it worked so well for me years ago and is relatively safe with a wide prescribing dose range. He gives me a script for Olanzapine! Oh, and an 800 number for mental health. Well, who do you complain to about that? The meds he prescribed are for a Schizophrenic, who’s going to listen to me. BTW, Schizophrenia has very different symptoms and doesn’t just happen to people in their 50’s with no history! I also know that once you start taking certain meds, there’s no walking them back (Anti-Psychotics). He actually made me a little better just because I can laugh about it. If I didn’t have some knowledge under my belt, I might be more upset. Edited August 27, 2014 by RUright
MiaB
Welcome to CrazyBoards! It might help you to read through our various medication forums. Antipsychotics, for example, have many uses beyond schizophrenia. Feel free to contact any of the staff if you have questions. Mia
olga
Welcome to our happy home. We often tell people to see a psychiatrist in order to get effective treatment and the appropriate meds. I don't think GPs are qualified for this specialty, so maybe you should consider visiting a pdoc. I hope you like being here. olga
reset
Situational depression is depression nonetheless. And don't be ashamed or weary for being prescribed antipsychotics, it's prescribed for lot's of other conditions than schizophrenia, medical professionals know this. Welcome to Crazyboards!
