can i only be psychotic during night sleeptime?

Recommended Posts

I have a tendenses to shout in nights. I usualy waking up without remember it and shouting loud in up to 10 seconds. It often sounds like i see something or experiencing something unnormal. Is it possible since i stopped abilify and fluoxetine for a week and a half ago cold turkey that i going psychotic during sleep? I have stopped them with a phsyciater. The reason i know i do this shouting is that i record my sounds with a "sleeptalk recorder" app on my phone.

Night terrors? I know they can happen after stop taking a medication. I had sleep paralysis after stop taking abilify and fluoxetine (I was taking both at the same time, and I stopped both), but my sister had night terrors when she stopped fluoxetine.

She woke up screaming and the next morning she didn't remember it. It happened to her for a month. My sleep paralysis just lasted a week.

It is diagnosed as a disorder only if it is not caused by a medication or medical condition.

Maybe...can you ask your pdoc?

I had some weird residual sleep effects after stopping Abilify.  The best way to describe it was that I would wake up in the night and still feel very "dreamlike."  I also had some very paranoid ideation one night, but again, it was after being awoken in the middle of the night.  I haven't experienced anything like it before or since.

What you're describing doesn't sound at all like psychosis-- what makes you think it is?

Medication discontinuation can do weird things that stick around for awhile, so I wouldn't be surprised if it remits.   Not quitting your meds cold turkey may have helped with these effect a little bit.

There's also a chance that it's your symptoms returning.  It's going to be hard to tell for a few weeks, probably, until things settle down a bit.

I often hear voices when I'm sleeping. Why did you stop the medication? Are you going to go on something else?

I stopped bechause the pills made my mouth dry and i got tired. I dont think i going to try other pills. I also often hearing voices during sleep and i also hearing music and songs during sleep. But only sometimes when im oversleeping too long.

If you have serious mental illness, dry mouth and fatigue really aren't reason enough to stop treatment.  What are you being treated for?  How long were you on the medications?  I don't understand why you're stopping treatment over side effects that can be addressed various ways.

I only was treated for anger problems. I was on the medications in little less than a half year.
