Sleep really messed up *vent

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated with my sleeping schedule. I go to bed the same time every night but different results everyday. I might as well roll a die each night! I've been exhausted each and every day, but some days I wake up in a few hours wide awake. It's really disabling. Its the number one reason why I can't have a normal day. I'm going back to my GP to get some physical testing done, but my psychiatrist hasn't been any help. Anybody else disabled due to sleep? I've had two sleep studies in past 5 years with NADA. Maybe its time for a third.

I'm on my 10th or 11th day of averaging 3 hours sleep a night at an absolute max - that is, I think (my memory is fried as a result of all of this, so it might be fewer hours).  Most nights I sit up for hours, doze off on the couch, then am wide awake again at 2 or 3am.  Other nights I just don't sleep at all.  It's gotten to the stage where I have no idea how I'm managing to function.  I took time off work last week because of this, and am about to leave again (it's lunchtime) because I'm not doing much more than staring at my computer screen in a daze.

My pdoc is being absolutely no help, despite having said to me in the past that great big warning signs should flash when my sleep cycle is disrupted.  On the other hand, I have only been speaking to her on the phone and see her f2f this Thursday.  Hopefully something will come of that, because something has to be done before I wind up in hospital.

So, sorry, no ideas other than that I feel your pain.   What physical testing are you hoping that your GP will do?

I take klonopin to keep me waking up every hour on the hour. The sleep is just not restful though. I have autoimmune thyroid disease and my joints have been burning bad, so I am going to request a full thyroid lab and tests for other autoimmune diseases like lupus or fibromyalgia. I suppose I could try a sleep lab a third time (its been a few years). They usually find nothing though..

I had sleep problems after coming off seroquel last time. I couldn't find a sleeping pill that would keep me awake in the am and sleep at night.

I finally saw a sleep doc who gave me Rozerem to sleep and provigil to help keep awake. I got my life back!

My sleep is so messed up! I can so relate to this post. I try to exercise everyday, even if I only walk, avoid caffeine before bed, etc. It seems like the nights I try the hardest are the nights I get the worst sleep!

The only way I can sleep, even while taking something for sleep, is to let myself fall asleep whenever, no matter how late it is. If I schedule something early for the next day I will not be able to fall asleep at all, or I will wake up too early and can't get back to sleep. I pretty much try to schedule anything important for after 1 pm. I have never done a sleep study but I have gotten tested by a GP recently ( actually four times total since I started experiencing extreme insomnia problems four years ago) and they have found nothing wrong. Last time I went though, the doctor did notice my vitamin D3 levels were super low. Would that have anything to do with why I'm having insomnia? I think that is more because I get up so late into the day and miss most of the morning sun.

A sleep study might help but in my opinion ( I had 3), they seem to only care about sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

My sleep is the worst it's ever been. I'm up till 5-6 am in a chat room, then sleep till 9or 10 then back to sleep from 4 to 6pm or so then repeat the whole thing.. It's about 7 hrs total, but broken into 2 parts. Excercise makes me tired and hungry, so I quit excercising. My appetite really increases when I excercise, don't want to gain weight. I'm over weight aloready. My next pdoc appt is later this month. He's never seen me like this. After 20 yrs of this depression/anxiety bs.. I've earned this decompensation.

I too am all over the place normally. I mostly go to sleep okay but I don't stay that way (I've always put it down to fibro). Pre children my schedule was more like sleep until 1 or 2pm and go to bed around 3 or 4am. I've found it really hard to switch to a normal schedule. Now days I'm taking 10mg doxepin at about 10 at night and I'm finding it much easier to stay asleep. Without it though I'm back to all over the place. Doesn't seem to matter how tired I am or busy I've been that day.

I'm doing alot better now. I had my anti-depressant changed and my thyroid dose increased. I still wake up at night but i'm finally feeling rested. Well see how long this lasts  ;)

That's good news - fingers crossed for you!

I'm on a new regime which involves a sustained release form of Xanax and an elderly AP called Etomine.  Worked fine for a couple of nights, then last night I wound up taking too much of the Xanax because I felt it wasn't kicking in and started to panic.  Eventually woke up more than an hour after my alarm this morning - I have no idea (1) how many I wound up taking or (2) how I managed to switch off all the lights etc and get myself to bed.  It took me a good few hours to feel conscious today.  It was actually pretty frightening and now I don't want to touch the benzo again, which may mean another sleepless night if the AP doesn't decide to work, and really, ffs.. is it ever going to end?

What should end is me taking over your thread - sorry!

No feel free. My sleep problems started back up. I really think its my AP but i'm to afraid to change it or go off of it.. just been trying to cope with being tired all the time

Do you think you are slipping into a depression?  Feeling more tired than I usually am usually is a sign I am becoming depressed.

It could be. I am going to have to revisit this problem next doctor visit. The sleep problem started with a manic episode. Geodon made me get good sleep but I slept too long 14hrs etc. Switch to latuda and I'm waking up all night. So I don't know if mania messed my sleep up or something else is?

For me, anything could be a trigger to mess up my sleep more than it is.  Also combined with the trigger (whatever that is) other things combined with it will cause lack of sleep.  Stress, a commitment, really anything ... depending on my mood at the time.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the madness. Most days i'm exhausted. Some days i'm ok. I get the same amount of sleep (7 hours) but the results vary from day to day. It's very disabling. I've started looking into other possibilities for the fatigue besides my mood disorder and medication. I am going to speak with my pdoc about it on the 1st to see what his thoughts are as well.

So there are others out that get so sleep deprived they may end up in the hospital? Is it really possible I'm not alone in feeling this way? A couple of times a month I get that way but usually get just enuf sleep to keep from going there.

For me Kiki, it definitely was the Latuda I was taking. I am going to have to try something else now. Are you on medication? Have you talked to a doctor yet? It can be soo many things. And yes, if you get sleep deprived enough you can go into psychosis..
