hey waterfall.

i noticed a significant difference going from 150 to 200 for my depression.  i mean HUGE.  although it greatly affected my mania, it literally removed my depression from my life for a long time.

give it some time. you didnt mention how long its been since upping?

At 150 I was OK, but still cycling (just not wildly). I went up to 175 rather than straight to 200, and I went completely batshit crazy within 2 days. I went straight up to 200 and within 2 or 3 days I was stable. It took a couple of weeks at 200 before I could 'breathe again', as I'd been waiting for it all to crazy again up to that point. Been there ever since...

whatever works, thats what i say.

at 200mg of lamictal i went BATSHIT crazy...i went manic like...i cant even describe. that was when i first started topamax, it took literally 4 days and i saw a difference - completely calmed me down. placebo effect? who knows. i DO know that there are a lot of people on the board who have had the same experience (with topamax) working that fast.

as long as youre feeling better thats all that matters.  this is only my opinion, though.

I take 400mg Lamictal - it is so high because birth control makes my body flush the Lamictal down to effectively 200mg.

I used to take 300mg- so 150- then just raised it a whole 100mg, in reality 50mg, at once.

Lately I've been more prone to manias. I think it is that the whole med line-up I'm on right now is anti-depression.

I just love Lamictal. Even if I switch to a more neutral or anti-mania line-up I'll keep it. I did notice a significant difference between the 150 to 200. It squashed the depression and the mania, well, we have to work on it.

Abilify made me manic. But you said manias aren't a problem right now. I'd just watch out for the manias. Abilify felt "weird" (best description I can come up with- sorry) to me, but it also feels "clean", no hangovers or groggy effects like GEODON.

Best luck!

I went from 150 to 200 a week and 1/2 ago. This is the first time on Lamictal that I've noticed side effects. The first couple of days I felt like I'd drunk a whole pot of coffee- really edgy and my stomach/intestines felt really raw (weird description but I can't come up with anything better.) I also had a hard time pronouncing words. This seems to be a bit better the past couple of days but we'll see...

I seem to be slightly hypomanic but I feel very hopeful about the future. Two weeks ago I was thinking suicidal thoughts a lot. That is completely gone.

I noticed changes in my increases and decreases. It has been fairly drastic one way or the other. At one time I was up to 450. I became emotionally blunted. Pdoc slowly took me down until I almost crashed. Pretty good sign to stop  ;)

Also just went up from 150mg to 200mg (target dose) of Lamictal.  Unfortunately, after a couple of days, it's sent me bouncing off the walls with general nervous stimulation such as exacerbation of neuropathic pain (of course I can always get back on Neurontin).  Strange because Lamictal's a GABA (sleepytime) agonist, no?

I am  interested in SE of lamictal. I currently take 100mg, 50mg at night and 50mg in the morning, becaue I noticed when I took the entire dose at night I had problems waking up. Most of you have noted that at this dose, lamictal has an ennervating effect.

Also, I am in the wine business and the lamictal has given me some of the worst hangovers I have ever experienced. After two glasses of wine the next day I thought I was going to die.The doctor thought this might have some thing to do with my liver.

He also checked on lamictal and BC and said he found nothing.  The women on this board have said there is an interaction.

He and I have decided to up the dose for more of an antidepressant effect, which seems contrary to  what people have said here.

I do not take anyother meds and have been diagnosed with Manic Depression (it was that long ago) since I was hospitallized in college for a hypomanic episode, which eventually led to hospitalization for an eating disorder.

Anyone else had similar SEs?
