Topamax useful for BP II anxiety?

Recommended Posts

I've recently started topamax (it's been close to a month now) and am currently at 25 mg in the am, 50 mg in the pm.  I think it's helping with the anxiety and I feel a lot more stable in general.  I'm still trying to find the right med combo/dosage for me but I'm feeling hopeful that I'm on the right track.

With the topamax and clonazepam in the morning I can get through my day without panic attacks (usually) and am a reasonably functional human being.  It's an interesting feeling, one I haven't had for over a year.  I think I may be titrating up to a higher dosage of topamax but that will wait until after I've given my body some time to adjust.

I've found Topamax to be moderately useful for anxiety in addition to actually keeping me from constantly boinging around cycling and generally being a complete spazzket case. A lot less tension, fewer jitters, and it's easier to interrupt ruminations and obsessions and such on it. Still need to augment it when things get on the nasty side, though.

It's definitely a sweet spot drug, and picky about who it's going to work for and who it's going to make dumber than a box o' rocks. Like Lisa said, you and your doc will have to work out whether it would be a good drug to consider.

Topamax helps a lot with anxiety type symptoms and ruminations and keeps me from flipping out. Also, it helps my ultradian cycling by reducing amplitudes of up n downs. I really relieves the mixed states.

It's like a 'Klonopin effect' except it's longer and more subtle acting. I take 300mg total per day. I divide it in three 100mg doses because I feel that I get the best results from taking it in three doses thru-out the day.

It works on GABA.

Out of the three I take, this drug is the one that best treats my cycling the most effectively.  I also get good mixed state relief from it.  Straight up anxiety relief?  Sure, but I also feel I get that from the Seroquel too.
