medication induced nightmares

Recommended Posts

Ok, y'all know I've been thru something traumatic. It doesn't mean that they are the results of my nightmares. I may not have PTSD but I am on a lot of medication. I noticed when we either reduce a med the nightmares get worse so there is clue number one . And when I was first put on klonopin it took my nightmares away. Now it seems to cause them so I'm giving the doctor the benefit of the doubt.

My new doc slashed almost every DX. I know I have OCD but they think I was just delusional when I said I fear I was going to molest children. A child molester doesn't fear or worry that their going to do that sick sick act. Then the theme changed into Gods Judgment and klonopin has curbed that really well but I need to try CBT for that.

I'm not really sure what your question is, but meds can often cause vivid dreams and some of those may be nightmares.

You said your pdoc slashed a lot of your diagnoses. What is your diagnosis now? Is your sig accurate?

Effexor (well, the generic) definitely gives me crazy dreams, and I tend to remember them more. It could easily be med related.

I have found this with most meds but ESPECIALLY effexor. I don't take effexor anymore but I still have very vivid dreams. They have calmed down lately though since I was put on seroquel.

sleep deprivation causes nightmares when the person sleeps.  Also, some meds list nightmares as a known side effect, like Risperdal.  So anything is possible.  Psychotherapy might help your fears about abuse.
