Anyone else taking Seroquel AND Seroquel XR?

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps,

I have been taking Seroquel (25mg) and an anti-depressant for a while.

Since my anxiety is through the roof and my hypomania as well, my therapist now increased seroquel to 50mg

AND put me on Seroquel XR 50mg.

I'm feeling super, super tired and groggy today. Started the new treatment last night.

Does anyone else take Seroquel with Seroquel XR?

If so, whats your experience?

Thank you alot for responses.

PS: Not afraid of putting on weight cause I'm on the small side plus Seroquel kind of ruins my appetite.

When I was on Seroquel, I used to take half of the total dose as the XR form in the morning, and then half as the IR at night.  The idea was that the IR would help me sleep (I had wicked insomnia) and the XR would help keep me calm during the day.

It worked well for my symptoms - but the sedation was a big problem for me.  It did get better with time, to the point where I could function through it and be relatively ok during the day.  After taking it for nearly 6 years, I finally came off due to sedation and weight gain.

But it did help me for a long time.

I take 100mg of the IR and 600mg of the XR every day.  To be honest, I've been on this combination for so long that I couldn't really tell you what the point of the IR is.  I think my former pdoc prescribed it as a sort of anxiolytic to take at the end of the day because the XR takes 4-5 hours to kick in for me.  My new pdoc wants me off the IR completely, so I'm currently tapering off that really slowly.

You're on really low doses which are known to be highly sedative for most people, so I'm not surprised you're struggling with grogginess in the morning.

I take both, 150 mgs total of the XR and 100 mgs total of the IR every day. I take all of the IR and 50 mgs of the XR at night, and the other 100 mgs of the XR in the morning. The IR is strictly for sleep and the XR at night is, I think, meant to keep the dose steady. The XR during the day is definitely meant to even me out during the hours when I am actualy awake.
