amianthus
This is so bizarre. I've been right handed all of my life because that was simply natural. Then I started on a low dose (10mg) of citalopram 4 days ago and various strange things have happened, but the latest is that I've switched from being right-handed to left-handed. I hadn't realised this was even possible until I came back from a walk and suddenly noticed myself doing everything with my left hand. My right hand feels like my left hand used to -- it is awkward to try and use it (I tested it intentionally) for a lot of things, while using my left hand suddenly comes as naturally as if I'd been doing it forever. I automatically use my left. Can anybody explain this, or have any of you experienced it? As far as I remember, this is the first time it has happened to me Edited April 25, 2015 by amianthus
Fluffypinkbunny
I've never heard of a med causing this? Very interesting! Do you remember being a lefty as a child that was forced right handed? I'm a lefty but right hand dominant. I go back and forth with lots of stuff. However, I can't write with my right hand. amianthus
I’d never heard of it either, which is why I posted here to see if perhaps anyone else had or just share otherwise…I’m fairly sure that this isn’t listed as a side effect! It would be interesting to see if it had happened to others, but I've not had luck in finding anything so far. That would make sense but no, I don’t remember anything like that – so far as I’m aware I’d always been right-handed. I might ask my parents to be sure, though, in case there was something like that and I just don’t remember. Going back and forth as you mentioned doing is interesting too. I’d really never given much thought to hand dominance before – until this happened, I did almost everything with my right hand. It didn’t really occur to me to do otherwise, or felt awkward on the rare occasion I tried. Edited April 26, 2015 by amianthus
amianthus
I asked my parents and they confirmed that no, I was never left-handed as a child. Earlier today I drew something with my left hand and it came more naturally than drawing ever did with my right hand. I've been writing left-handed now without any real problem -- it's a little scruffy but perfectly readable and getting clearer and neater as I do it more. So strange, but I rather like it

amianthus
Yes, yes! Join us! Join us!I Haha, Southern Discomfort -- I'm assuming you are a lefty? It seems I have joined you, at least partially. I can still do things like write with my right hand, but prefer my left. It feels more natural now.
