My doc just prescribed me 300 mg Seroquel. I thought 400mg was the effective dose for it's antipsychotic effects. Anyone think 300 mg is too little? I don't want to go into psychosis again.

I'm on 200, and it works pretty effectively. I still experience some psychotic symptoms, but I can tolerate them now. I never used to be able to. 600mg was more effective for this, but I was exhausted all the time and the interaction with sertraline was giving me heart problems and the reduced dose prevented this from getting out of hand.

Everyone responds differently to the various medications and their different doses. I did well on 400mg for a while but due to a bad manic episode in December 2012 it was increased to 800mg and I am still on that dose. It appears to be what I need to keep me stable.

300mg may be the dose that helps you! On the other hand maybe your pdoc is planning on increasing it or is just seeing how you get on at that dose

I'm guessing that your doctor will raise your dose if necessary and that this is just to get you going. The general rule of thumb that a lot of doctors adopt is to prescribe the minimum dose to resolve the symptoms. If you still have symptoms at 300 mg, you have plenty of room to go up if you doctor so decides.

How long have you been on Seroquel?
