I got the shot of prolixin.  It really helped a lot except I couldnt adjust the dose when I needed to.  ie, when I got the first shot, it was a little too much, but because it was a shot of it I was stuck with the side effects until it wore off after 2 weeks (it was obvious when it wore off ... got my -normal- energy back).  But it worked.

I tried the pills and they didn't have much of an effect.  Only the shot helped.  I don't remember the dose of the pills or shot.  But the shot helped A LOT more than the pills for me.

My pdoc discussed the shot with me, but that would mean I would have to go to GP for administration and probably pay a copay every time so I declined. Hopefully the pills work. I read online it is one of the strongest potencies along with Haldol.

  • 2 weeks later...

hey butterfly,

i was on the depot injection for several months. it worked really well overall. i took zyprexa concurrently and the combination was good for me. i found it to be a lot like haldol (which, i'm on haldol depot now), except that the major side effect i got from prolixin was akathisia. i took propranolol and that helped immensely, however, so i was able to continue on it for awhile. i tend to get muscle rigidity more on haldol, which i didn't have on prolixin.

i only took the pills specifically to end up on the depot, and i don't have a really solid memory of how that went as i was pretty messed up when i started. it must've been ok though given i did end up being able to handle the injections.

hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions.

best wishes with it; prolixin was overall very useful for me. xx
