Wonderful.Cheese
Which is better for mania? I did well on seroquel with no mania. But risperdal was better for the voices. Idk
dazed and confused
Seroquel did nothing for me, I may as well have taken panadol. I'm now on RIsperidone and while it's not perfect I'd take that any day over zombie drug but then again everyone is different when it comes to med interactions. Devotchka
Risperdone helps me with voices, physical sensations, etc. My brain feels calmer, like that feeling of my brain being two separate entities fighting with/screaming at each other is calmed with risperdone. Seroquel knocks me out. I sleep on it when nothing else makes me sleep. I hope you are OK, Cheese. Just messaged you. iaawal
I hope you find one that works. I was never on seroquel and risperdal was just not for me.
Velvet Elvis
How high was your largest dose of seroquel? We've had people taking at least 1200 mgs despite the PI sheet maxing out the dose at 800.

Husband is calling my care team to demand a med swap from latuda to something more suitable for treating mania. I used to take 800 mg of IR VE. Good to know thanks! I thnk I will ask to try risperidone first. Or possibly invega. I was thinking of trying the XR of seroquel or risperidone.
surreal
I took Seroquel XR for some time and it was pretty sedating and calming. It didn't kick in until about 4 hours after taking it though. I hope you're able to find something that works!

Husband called and left a very nice but firm message about what we wanted to have happen. I will be requesting to try risperidone. I've tried invega breifly but freaked out because I thought I would start lactating! I wasn't but...ooops! I should have given it a fair shot. And the risp is generic so it will be cheap hopefully. Invega and seroquel xr are spendy.
jt07
I've never taken Seroquel, but I have taken risperidone. I did not find risperidone sedating at all, but some people do. Nevertheless, it doesn't have the reputation for sedation that Seroquel does. If you are concerned about being overly sedated (one reason you were taking Ritalin), then I think maybe risperidone or Invega might be a good option to try first. Risperidone also has a reputation for bringing people down from acute mania (although I think Zyprexa and Haldol are used more often).
Wonderful.Cheese
Thanks jt. I appreciate your input! I'm glad to hear that risp has that reputation. I know zyprexa and haldol are used more often though too. You are right. I just am trying to think more long term here since we can't afford the latuda much longer and it's not working that great anyway.

Hopefully you will hear back from your treatment team soon. I know how much you've been struggling lately and you deserve to feel better already! Edited to add: I forgot to mention that I took Risperdal for some time as well. I wasn't able to keep taking it though because it caused akathisia and I couldn't lay down and relax. rowan77
I took risperidone several years ago and didn't like it. My periods stopped and I leaked breast milk and became very restless and couldn't sleep. I currently take Seroquel xr and really like it. It helps so many of the symptoms that I experience with bipolar disorder. I have minimal side effects
Wonderful.Cheese
I'm starting 3 mg of risperdal today. Good news! He said to just stop taking latuda. Is that going to be hard like stopping the Effexor is ?
Fluffypinkbunny
I was on 20 mg Latuda for a month and cut it cold turkey. I didn't have any issues from it. Cheese I hope this puts you on the right tract! I'm so glad your hubby called. Boy, they got on the stick didn't they.

Especially today I feel a little better. Yesterday was a bit rocky, but I did not act on any bad impulses. And so far no issues from stopping the latuda for me either!
