I just started Effexor a couple of weeks ago, 75mg. It says to take with food, and pdoc told me to take it in the morning. Having a hard time eating that early. My question is, does this have to do with effective absorption, or is it just to avoid an upset stomach?

Hi Rabbit. I do not have a clear answer to your question but I will try to look for one. I can say that the pharmacist told me it was best to eat with or before taking the Effexor(I started about 10 days ago) because it could cause me to lose my appetite along with my Adderall. She said it can suppress appetite in some people. Yet, I see that it can cause weight gain after reading the pamphlet which is confusing.

I stopped taking it Friday night after some very bad adverse side effects which do not appear to be common. However, I did notice a slight boost in synthetic energy possibly due to the N component of this SNRI. What dosage are you on? I am waiting for my doctor to call me back today about it so I will ask him that question you originally asked.

My doctor called. It was actually the nurse though. I apologize for asking the dose. I see it. I have major fog issues right now.

She said that a small number of people may get an upset stomach after taking certain anti depressants. I did not take it with food myself but we are all different. Stomach ache was not one of my side effects. Also, I took it in the pm hours because I would start to get very dizzy and fatigued. My doctor had said that taking it at night was fine for me. I would absolutely call the pharmacist as jt said though.

I never take my meds with food except when I was on viibryd. It's not wise most likely but I don't have stomach issues from the meds. Sometimes in the first couple weeks specifically prozac I would hhave nausea.

I take it every morning without food.

The pharmacist says it can upset people's stomachs, and that is why to take it with food.

But it doesn't affect my stomach.

That's what I've been told, anyway
