Alright, now let me preface this by saying that I am not the most obedient patient/psychotic. I've been prescribed quite a few anti-psychs and I just- don't take them. I don't like them and I'm not altogether convinced there's anything wrong with me in the first place so *shrug*.

However, I'm being threatened with a court order to be administered anti-psychotics forcibly via injections if I don't start taking at least one. Being the eating disordered kid I am, I'm not down for taking one that's going to make me gain 5 million pounds. I'm prescribed Haldol right now, and I've heard that it doesn't cause weight gain, but I'm still paranoid (another joy of being psychotic!!!!) Can anyone give me suggestions of anti-psychs that don't cause weight gain (also, the newer the anti-psych, the better, because I'm sixteen and my psychiatrist doesn't want to screw up my system too much).

It's in my signature, but for reference, I'm currently only on Effexor, 140 mg (although I can easily stop taking that if I need to)

As for my experience with anti psych meds , they made me hungry and sleepy - If your conscious of gaining weight it may be from increased appetite from the meds , so if u do start taking them it would be good to have a back up plan , like fill up on healthy lower carb food when u do get hunger pangs..

Easier said than done , I know ...

I believe the AAPs considered least likely to cause weight gain are Abilify and Latuda. For some people, Geodon is good too. You will never know which one is good for you without trying them.

Why are you refusing to take the Haldol? 5 mg. is not a massive dose.

Same as melissa, I'm on abilify and have had no weight gain. I'm also on haldol and have had no weight gain, or any other side effect from it for that matter. I'm not saying it'll be the same for you as everyone has different reactions, just that it's a drug that's well worth considering. Better to do it by yourself than have a court order too imo.

I'm on Latuda and I've had no weight gain, but it is a very expensive med. I read in one of your other threads you didn't have much money and I'm not sure what your insurance situation is like. I have state medicaid. They cover it. I pay $3.00 a month as a co-pay. It costs medicaid $900.00 a month. But I've been on it for 3 years now and I've not gained any weight or had any other side effects from it.
