Stopping abilify and celexa (cold turkey) and taking Wellbutrin

Recommended Posts

Already have been reducing ability from 20 mg down to 5mg, and Celexa from 40 mg to 10mg. Just started Wellbutrin a couple of days ago. If I am taking Wellbutrin is it okay to go ahead and just stop the other two?

Stopping the Ability and Celexa cause of weight gain and can't lose on it. Didn't realize it can cause obesity and make it hard to lose.

Does anyone know about that? Does it mess up your thyroid or metabolism? Does it take a few weeks to normalize after you stop?

My old pdoc would made a shit ton of med changes with hardly any taper, in a matter of 0 to 2 days I was off old meds and on new ones. Sometimes it went fine side effects/physical symptoms wise. Mental health wise, it never went well (except for the viibryd, I improved after cold turkey-ing it).

I've stopped abilify cold turkey (but I only took it for a week and a low dose) and celexa in like a 1 day taper (I was on that one longer). I think I went from 40mg one day, to 20mg the next, to nothing the next day. Can't remember if I experienced withdrawal symptoms, I don't think. With the celexa I was put on prozac at the same time so any symptoms could've either been from the celexa withdrawal or beginning side effects from prozac.

Bottom line, ask your pdoc. While they may not cause any physical symptoms, they could mess you up mentally. What's a few extra days in terms of your weight loss plan in the long run. Not sure the half life of the abilify. But I think the celexa will take a few weeks.

I agree you need to have a talk with your pdoc about this, and he/she needs to be on board. I can tell you that stopping Celexa from 10 mg was hell on earth for me.
