Wonderful.Cheese
Since Flonase is a steroid technically could this be the cause of my face and back/belly weight gain so rapidly? I don't get it. I was on ridperdal for days and had no extreme hunger pangs. Then I started the Flonase a few days after the ridperdal. I will stop taking the Flonase I think. My dr suggested a cortisone shot but won't that just be another weight gaining steroid agent? I'll just not take anything I guess.
melissaw72
I didn't have that problem with Flonase. When I got a cortisone shot it made me manic. I didn't gain weight from it though.

Oh thanks Melissa! My GP knows I have SZA and bipolar. Why the hell would he want me to take a long acting steroid shot? 3 months it lasts he said. I do not want the mania again. We can't afford it. I can't win I tell you!
dragonfly23
Wonderful, any type of steroid makes me severely manic. The doctor that prescribed them for me had no clue as to how steroids effect mental illness. I asked her twice if what she was prescribing would cause issued with my other meds or with my mood disorder, she said no. Stupid bitch. She didn't have to live in my fucked up head for two weeks. I was so angry. It was an acute care visit and not my usual doc. Once I saw my usual doc, he added a note to my file and was as pissed off as I was. Be careful. I am hoping for your stability. San
Steroids can make you manic, depressed, mixed. They can really fuck you up, even for those that aren't MI. I had a cortisone shot into my shoulder, my rotator cuff, and it didn't do anything to my mood (or my shoulder, it was useless) It depends where you get the shot, I think. What would the cortisone shot be for? And where would it be injected?
Wonderful.Cheese
Eep! I have an appointment with GP on Monday to discuss other options. So that's good. The cortisone shot would be for my allergies and not sure where I would get the shot at.
AnnaBanana
Flonase is a steroid yes, but it only works on your nose. It's pretty site specific. It shouldn't cause you weight gain or mania. I'm on Nasonex and I have no troubles and my doc assured me that it didn't work like other steroids, it's pretty specific to the nasal passages. iaawal
I wanted to kill myself the few days I was on prednisone. yikes. I also did have a ruptured blood vessel in my vocal cord so maybe it was a benefits outweigh risks sort of thing. I also have a flonase prescription but I don't take it. So I can't say anything about it and weight gain. Edited May 18, 2015 by iaawal
Wonderful.Cheese
Thanks everyone! Sorry to hear some of you had such problems with steroids. I will avoid them as long as it's not life threatening. To update: I am trying benedryl. My dad takes it. I take 1 tablet and it doesn't make me drowsy. 2 tablets at night. I take up to 5 during the day and it says just don't take more than 6. So that's fine. My GP appointment was cancelled due to her having an emergency. So I didn't get my questions answered. Oh well. Gearhead
Cheese, just because Benedryl is an OTC doesn't mean you shouldn't report that you're taking it to your pdoc, OK? Flonase jacked my pulse up to ~100+ beats a minute and kept it there for the several weeks I used it. Apparently I am SUPER sensitive to steroids. Which sucks, because it works pretty well. Wonderful.Cheese
I will tell pdoc for sure. I know GP knows but not pdoc. I sent a message to GP that this is what I'm going to try. GP is out of office for another week though.
