HAL9000 Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 I don't think I'm paranoid or at least I don't think my Doctor thinks I'm paranoid but don't you think that Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer are designed to make your computer run slower and slower and crash more and more often? And in addition are a super magnet for Viruses maulware and the new least favorite Hostageware? Wow I do sound paranoid. Weird things happening to it but I mostly put it down to Mcafee being a fucking useless piece of wank, forgetting things and restarting settings. Your computer will "naturally" slow down as your operating system becomes more burdened though. A lot of enthusiasts reinstall their operating system annually to refresh the run time. Windows isn't as bad as it used to be with XP for viruses I think, and Explorer is better too. But usually if a computer gets infected it's because the user has been a bit a silly arse and done fuck up. Just remember one: if something you're about to download could be a virus, it probably isn't worth it finding out. Two: you never sent that message to that Nigerian prince, don't click on it. Nystagmus Posted July 23, 2015 Share Posted July 23, 2015 i got sick of my windows 7 computer crashing so I erased it and installed ubuntu studio linux and it's been running fine for a long time now. It can pretty much do all the same things as Windows, you just have to look up the programs if they aren't already installed. Things really do run slower and slower its a common marketing scheme and I believe its 16 months or? Before whenever your computer was "good" when it becomes something you give away as useless slow junk. I have some REALLY old laptops that I run XP on without any connection to the internet and they speed along very nicely. My windows 7 machine on what I would consider a fairly fast computer is slower then mud and I probably use it for Windows once a month. Actually not at all because I have it in Virtual box. You can't be smart enough to avoid getting hacked. My neighbor bought one of those ASUS routers that leave a path wide open to read/write to any file on your computer and totally ripped her off. Pile of new credit cards all maxed out. All her personal stuff posted its a nightmare. My cousin brought me a machine with Hostageware on it. The "F"s who wrote that should be sent to prison. They wanted $8,000.00 to get all her family pictures back. And they had her machine Zombified. MacaFee??? You have GOT to look up "how to remove Macafee Anti Virus" from John Macafee. Its maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He sold the company long ago so your right. The program IS total S$%#@ he has nothing to do with it anymore. He has a great android app that spells out what your agreeing to (For real) when you download an APP pretty scary. I went to Puppy Linux. Its a little but dumbed down but the author wrote it for speed and that makes all my "junk" / free computers run like Cray supercomputers. And other then audio (on some machines) you do little to nothing to get it set up and running. And everything is free. Like replacements for Word, Excel, Power (GAG) point. If you're trying to run old applications on it, it will be slow because it basically runs them in an XP VM. I use Linux for work and Windows for play, pretty much. Unless it's a machine with a gig or less of RAM, I strongly recommend plain Debian with XFCE as a desktop. Debian is what I'm using as I type this both on my desktop and on the CB server. Its the hugest slowest crappiest piece or programming shit that I can imagine. No... Its MORE then I can imagine. Windows 7 is like the peak of a landfill of crap. Its out in the open air but its just more garbage piled on other garbage. And now with windows 10 you get little to zero control over what code is put on your machine. Its always grown worse with each step. My dream is that Software and politics will work in reverse. Take stupid old laws/code out and test and perfect things. Looking a the library of state laws in the govs office is awe inspiring. In a bad way. There is not a chance in hell that anyone or even any small group can comprehend all of the laws. Wouldn't you agree that writing a windows app is 80 to 90% fucking with screwed up Microsoft shit and 10 or less percent writing the program?
