jt07
John Forbes Nash was a mathematician who won the Nobel prize for his work in game theory. He also suffered from schizophrenia. Later in life, Nash's schizophrenia went into remission. Although he never regained all his genius that he had before he developed schizophrenia, he did go on to do some work again in mathematics. John Nash was probably known to a lot of people from the movie "A Beautiful Mind" but he was well known in mathematics for his work in game theory. In fact, the movie "A Beautiful Mind" rather blatantly misrepresented the nature of his delusions, and it really was not a biographical movie but rather a movie loosely based on Nash's life. John Nash and his wife Alicia were killed when the driver of the taxi they were riding in lost control and they were thrown out of the cab. A very tragic ending for a couple of star-crossed lovers. John Nash's story was an inspiration to me, and I'm quite sad today.
water
I read A Beautiful Mind, never saw the movie. It was an incredible book, very inspiring. I had no idea who he was when I was gifted the book. Such a tragedy that John and his wife were killed in a car crash. http://www.nj.com/middlesex/index.ssf/2015/05/famed_a_beautiful_mind_mathematician_wife_killed_in_taxi_crash_police_say.html

jt07
The book was good. It was actually a biography. The movie changed many, many things. Russell Crowe did a good job acting, but whoever wrote the screenplay took way too many creative liberties. His life story was interesting as it was ... I didn't think it needed changing. water
The book was good. It was actually a biography. The movie changed many, many things. Russell Crowe did a good job acting, but whoever wrote the screenplay took way too many creative liberties. His life story was interesting as it was ... I didn't think it needed changing. They Hollywoodized his life as is often done and in this case, life was stranger than fiction. But many people might not otherwise have heard of him I think the movie was nominated for an Oscar, maybe even got one for something? I don't remember. but I will never ever forget the life of John Nash. An amazing man who lived a long life with his demons. confused
I know with the hallucinations- auditory doesn't film like visual-so they took a lot of creative license there. I didn't read the book. I could relate to parts of the film. Sad to hear about he and his wife.

RoadToRecovery
This is pretty heart breaking. I really admire his work and looked up to him as a scientist with a psychotic disorder. He was pretty remarkable. There's a better documentary about his life on youtube I forget what it's called though.

I'd be willing to be that what really happened is that his schizophrenia remitted somewhat as he got older and he gained insight and was able to ignore a lot of the noise going on in his head. I seriously doubt that he actually "willed away" his schizophrenia.
