Rabbit37
I've been having an extremely difficult time sleeping the past few months, averaging 2-3 hours a night. My pdoc prescribed trazadone, 50mg. He is usually very conservative when starting a med. how low is this dose? I got ZERO sleep last night, and I need sleep badly. Would taking 100mg be too much? Can't talk to pdoc til Tuesday. Rabbit37
I should mention that I don't take benzos, so that's out. I do have some vistaril, but the last few times I tried that it didn't help. Benadryl does nothing.
Wonderful.Cheese
Idk what dose your pdoc wants you to take but I took at least 200 mg for sleep for many years. It works well. I would ask your pdoc what dose he wants you to use.
Rabbit37
Thanks, cheese, I know you can't suggest that I take more than prescribed, I just thought that it was probably a low dose. I still have to get through tonight and tomorrow night before I can talk to him.
Wonderful.Cheese
I hope you can get some sleep with it! Good luck!
tryp
When I started taking it, I think I started at 50. Â I tried up to 150 - it just never really worked for me. Â It's great for some people though.
GrayEyes777
Not getting enough sleep is awful - trust me, I know!  I started out with Trazodone years ago at 25 mg and slowly over the years made it up to 100 mg. I remember when I took 50 and it was no longer working for me, my pdoc immediately said to double the dosage. But I don't feel comfortable telling anyone else to do that as I have no idea what other stuff you might be taking.  I do notice you're on Lexapro - personally I couldn't take that AD - made my insomnia worse than it ever was!  Just hold on until you can get in touch with your pdoc..... Rabbit37
Thank you, gray eyes, I will. I've been taking the lexapro for years, not sure if that's the culprit. I just started Effexor, and my insomnia has progressively gotten worse. I didn't take it today, so we'll see what happens.
Aelys
I also took 200mg trazodone for sleep 2 years ago, And it was combined with 2mg ativan and 15mg remeron.
dancingteapot
I used to take 100mg.
IcePrincess88
I just got off Trazadone about 6 or so weeks ago. When I was on it I was taking 150 mgs. The 150's are the oddest shaped pills I've ever seen. But Coupled with Seroquel I was getting around 12 hours of sleep a night! I mean deep sleep. Not waking up at all. Being completely knocked out for 12 hours. That's why my pdoc took me off of it. But everyone is different and reacts differently.
Rabbit37
My pdoc increased it to 100mg today. I took (I know, I know, bad) a double dose of the 50mg last night. I was desperate. Didn't help at all, only slept for about an hour. I might have to go back to seroquel for sleep. Urgh.

Regular sleep aids(like Ambien, Lunesta, etc) don't work for me. But boy, that Seroquel+Trazadone. Talk about sleep. You will get a whole lot more than an hour. I guess depending on how many mgs your on. It worked wonderfully for me. It was the only thing that could ever put me to sleep. Do you not like Seroquel or not want to go back on it? Rabbit37
Last time I was on seroquel, I gained weight. Didn't like that at all. It was at 400mg. I know that the sleep level of seroquel dosage is like 50 mg, but I'm worried about sleeping too much. I have two kids that I have to wake in the morning for school, early, and I can't afford to oversleep. Of course the alternative of not sleeping at all is not attractive either... I know what you mean. When I was on the regular Seroquel I was on 200mgs, and I had such bad cravings at night. I could eat an entire day's worth of calories in a pretty short time span after taking it. There is good news though. About 2 months ago, I was switched to Seroquel XL. Went from 300mg up to now 400mgs. It is a lot less sedating than the immediate release kind. When I was on the regular Seroquel, I would be completely knocked out within an hour of taking it and for 12 hours after that. With the XL version, I take it around 7pm, start to feel vaguely tired around 9pm or so. Then I'm up bright and early without all the grogginess that regular Seroquel has. Maybe Seroquel XL with a slight(50-100mgs) dose of Trazadone would work for your situation. I am of course no doctor, just relaying my experiences. Rabbit37
I think I took the regular seroquel, this has been a number of years ago. I've definitely been through the med go round. I'll ask pdoc about the XL version on Monday. Thanks.
Wonderful.Cheese
I hope you get some sleep! I have tried a billion things for it too. Ugh. Currently on lunesta and klonopin and risperdal and bedadryl at bedtime. Although I'm not sure if risperdal sedates me at all because I also take 2 mg in the morning and do not go immediately back to bed anyway. Ah the joys of being MI and sleep disordered! Am I right? Sorry not funny. Sending sleepy thoughts your way!
