IcePrincess88 Posted May 25, 2015 Share Posted May 25, 2015 First off, I had no idea where board to put this on. Now, My mom was prescribed Phentermine for weight loss but she hated it. She told me she didn't want them and I could have them. Since I am overweight myself, I decided I would give it a try. After checking that it didn't interfere with my current meds, I took one. Only later while researching the pills on the internet did I realize that I might have f*cked myself. I have a routine drug test by my pdoc next Monday. I read that this drug will pop up as a positive for Amphetamine. I tried to look up how long it stays in your system but there were conflicting answers, some said 2-4 days, others said 5-7. Wooster Posted May 25, 2015 Share Posted May 25, 2015 Sounds like it would be best to just bring it up with your pdoc, including bringing the prescription bottle, so you can let pdoc know what happened and have something to back it up with. ETA: My experience has been that health care providers tend to be more understanding when I just say what I did and why right off the bat instead of trying to hide, minimize, or deny it. You may not have that experience, but I hope you do. Being concerned about weight and taking your mom's prescription with her permission is a reasonable explanation for why you may test positive for amphetamines. A place where I used to work had a similar policy for drug testing employees (since we all pretty much either worked with kids, drove on company time, or both). If you told your supervisor you may test positive for anything not prescribed legally to you before any random or required drug test, you would be able to work out a plan to keep your job. If you came back with a dirty UA for anything you didn't have a prescription for, it was automatic dismissal. In fact, I didn't eat all day until I took my Seroquel and Xanax around midnight to finally wind down. I'm not questioning if it works. I'm scared I'm going to get in trouble with my pdoc because I hear it gives positive readings for amphetamines. That coupled with the fact that it is technically prescribed to my mom, not me. I think,or hope, it should be out of my system by then, but I think that your right. I'm just going to tell her what I did so just in case I do come up positive, it won't look like I'm secretly doing speed in my free time. Your answer has helped me so much.
