IcePrincess88
I'm currently on the max of Celexa(40mgs) and have been for years. But I don't feel like it's been really doing anything for me, I only still take it because I haven't been directed by my pdoc otherwise yet. I have been reading some wonderful things about Wellbutrin and I have a psych appointment next Monday. I'd like to bring it up that I'd like to give it a try. I read that Celexa and Wellbutrin aren't supposed to be taken together. Anyone ever taken both of these medications and have some comparisons? I'd love to hear about people's experiences with Wellbutrin.
jt07
I've taken Wellbutrin with Celexa on at least 2 occasions. Wellbutrin never helped me or worked for me at all. It helps a lot of people and on paper, it looks like is should help me but it didn't. Wellbutrin made me incredibly irritable, but it also lowered my appetite. It also made me incredibly anxious. My depression was never kicked in the butt fully until I created my Well-Lex combo. Combo's are good. Wellbutrin was my very first AD ever so I am very partial. The very first day I flashed back to my early early childhood, playing by the creek with my little girlfriends. I was truly happy. Maybe the last time. :-} Obviously this high high high did not last, but I LOVE Wellbutrin. All the side effects eventually left.
San
They can be taken together, but they are very different types of meds. Wellbutrin doesn't work on serotonin like Celexa, but it is an amazing antidepressant. It can be stimulating, and some people get anxious on it. I found it alone (without another SSRI or SNRI) helped my negative symptoms and didn't make me manic, like the SSRI's and SNRI's do. It really depends on what symptoms you want to treat. And you can always try the combo.

Even with Celexa(and my other medication cocktails) I am down a whole lot more than I am up.
water
Definitely try the Wellbutrin. It might work wonderfully. :-}
kateislate
Like Water, I take Wellbutrin and Lexapro together. And Water's right - Lexapro is a close relative of Celexa so I'd be surprised if you can't also take Celexa with Wellbutrin. I can't speak to any particular med in my cocktail really - but my cocktail which contains both works amazingly well.
jt07
From what I gather, Celexa + Wellbutrin is not uncommon. As I mentioned, I was on that combo at 2 different times by 2 different doctors, one of which was at the hospital. I'm really shocked to hear they don't go together because that does not go along with anything in my experience. If you got that information from an interaction checker, please be aware that interaction checkers flag a lot of things that are not serious concerns in the clinical setting. Some of the things they flag are purely theoretical.
IcePrincess88
Definitely try the Wellbutrin. It might work wonderfully. :-} I will definitely be bringing this up Monday. I'm already getting excited about the possibility that I could become somewhere close to nowhere. The thing is.... I'm not quite sure how to bring this matter up without sounding like a drug seeker or like I think I know more than her, if that makes sense. Like "Hey, I want to try Wellbutrin"...."Why?"...."I heard it's better than Celexa?"
jt07
I wouldn't say that it's better than Celexa, but I don't think you would come across as a drug seeker by simply asking about Wellbutrin, especially if the Celexa isn't cutting it anymore.

Always Unstable
I really wouldn't be worried about appearing to be a pill seeker. It's not like your asking for something that's typically sought by drug seekers.

I'm so looking forward to Monday.
