Just saw my pdoc today. Since starting wellbutrin I've been growing more and more irritable, anxious and angry. I have no impulse control really. Pdoc thinks I'm showing signs of mania. Anyway she is taking me off the wellbutrin since she's pretty sure that's the problem. She didn't start me on it. The covering doc did while she was on vacation.

Anyway, I saw her a few weeks ago and she wanted me taking ativan three times a day. Well, they did nothing since in a fit I smashed the windshield out of hubby's truck. Thankfully he doesn't let things upset him. He knows I'm nuts.

So I saw pdoc today and explained the rage and irritability and ativan not working etc. She started a taper off wellbutrin and prescribed clonidine which I've never heard of. I tried looking it up and it sounds sedating. She prescribed .1mg twice a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. I don't want to sleep all day.

Has anyone had experience with it? I know we are all different. I'm just curious and any info would be appreciated.

I felt blissfully stoned the whole time I was on it.

Complete with red eyes and cotton mouth.

No munchies, though.

It was only a stopgap for me and I didn't get to stay on it.

I felt incredibly less anxious and did not feel sedated, just stoned.

I used to take clonidine 2x a day, every day, and an extra one as needed. It really helped me with impulsive behavior and rage. It was kind of sedating at first, but that effect went away. Great med, would absolutely take again.

I took it so I wouldn't remember nightmares.  That worked, but it gave me the same side effect that ambien gave me like sleep-eating, not knowing I did things like email, which I would figure out once the side effects wore off.  Made me out of it and I kept wanting to sleep.  I might try it again in the future, but at the moment I would not.

Doesn't mean it won't work for you though.

Thanks for the replies. I have a really hard time with posting and replying. I always think I'll screw something up and I end up working myself up thinking I didn't do justice to the well thought out responses so it takes me a bit to reply. I'm not sure that makes sense to anyone but me. Sorry.

I took my first dose this morning and second this afternoon. I'm not sure I noticed much this morning but I did feel kinda tired and a little dizzy this afternoon after I took it. Nothing too bad though. I'm not feeling as agitated and anxious. I'll give it a few days and see how it goes. Hopefully it helps.

Wooster: sounds like it worked well for you. I'm not sure how long my pdoc plans to keep me on this. I'm thinking just until I'm a bit more stable. I'm kinda all over the place right now.

Larkspur: it's comforting to hear the sedation went away after a while and I'm glad it helped with rage and impulsiveness. Those two things are a big problem right now for me.

Melissaw72: those side effects are scary. I take ambien and thankfully I never had a problem but I definitely wouldn't stay on a med that caused those kind of side effects. I didn't know it could be used for nightmares. I am really just learning about it. I really like my pdoc. She's great but when it comes to what she prescribes, she's a bit mysterious. She never really explains anything about them.

snarkygirl, i'm on the same dose as you are.  i'm not sedated or stoned, i'm still taking clonazepam three times a day on top of that (and i'm still anxious fwiw, but that's just me).  i do feel much more easily fatigued than before starting clonidine, but i don't have that stoned feeling.  honestly, the side effect of never remembering a single dream ever is worth getting tired a little more easily to me (no more nightmares or repetitive anxiety dreams), so i probably like it for that more than it's calming effects during the day.

i hope it works out well for you.  are you able to check your blood pressure regularly to make sure it isn't low (since that's clonidine's primary purpose)?  mine is lower than it would be, but still within the range of normal.

Well it's day two and I'm a little tired. I'm thinking the Adderall is helping me stay awake. I am a little disappointed because so far I'm not noticing much of a difference in my anxiety or irritability. I hate feeling like this. I'm snapping at everyone. Maybe once I'm off the wellbutrin things will settle down.

Lysergia, I haven't really done much yet to find out if I tire more easily. I've been trying to chill at home since I'm not suited for public interaction right now. I hope I don't tire too easily though. I feel like I'm always going with my kids around, especially right now while they are playing softball. I'm already worried I'm either gonna yell at the umpire or fall asleep.

I actually haven't thought to check my blood pressure. Mine has been running a little bit high so maybe this will even things out. Thanks for asking. I wouldn't have thought to check.
