clickclick
First of all - Hi everyone. My family doctor prescribed budeprion XL 150 mg early January 2012. He asked me if I was depressed so I asked him why and he said I seemed a little flat to him. He had been seeing me since 1987 but he has recently retired. I mentioned I had a slight problem with new social situations - sort of like a special but minor form of anxiety. Anyway he upped my dose to 300 mg about 6 weeks later. Sometime before February 2013 the Rx changed to bupropion XL 300 mg. That same month my doctor wanted to increase my dose to 450 mg. After another month had passed by I told him the higher dose made me feel clumsy and my thinking was slowed. He moved me back to bupropion XL 300 mg for a week and then 150 mg the next week and added citalopram 20 mg. Later in 2013 he increased the bupropion back to 300 mg. I began seeing another general practitioner physician in November 2014 after my other doctor retired. I mentioned to her I thought my Rx's of bupropion 300 mg and citalopram 20 mg might not be necessary anymore. She/we decided to halt the citalopram which went very well. The 2 week decreasing dose method was uneventful and I feel fine. So now I'm wondering if I need the bupropion XL 300 mg anymore. Any advice is welcome. Thank you all. kateislate
It's hard to reply, because I can't even tell for sure why you were taking the meds or why they kept being increased. It sounds like you weren't really on board in the first place with taking the meds, but did it because your doc said so? Did you really know why he was prescribing them or making changes as tome went on? "A little flat" and minor anxiety in new social situations - I can't tell if you're not mentioning something you told your doctor or minimizing, or what. But it sounds like you clearly don't think anything was ever really wrong, so why are you asking us? If you do decide to try stopping the wellbutrin just don't do it unilaterally. Do it with your doc's jnstructions.
olga
I would only take an antidepressant if I felt like I was deep in the Black Pit of Despair. If you didn't have that kind of depression, I'm sort of wondering why your doctor would prescribe these meds. Part of the problem is that you are seeing a GP. They can be very good doctors, and know you well, but they are not psychiatrists. Pdocs spend a lot of time studying meds, side effects, interactions, efficacy, etc, so this is their area of expertise. If you feel in the future that you might need a psych med, you should ask your GP for a referral to a psychiatrist. In the meantime, if you want to taper off the Bupropion, discuss it with your doctor, do it gradually, and maybe you'll feel fine. If you find yourself sliding into a depressive state, take immediate action and call your doctor. Good luck and keep us posted! olga
