 so I thought I would try and start one.

 

1. None of the youtube video links work.

2. blogs gone, which you know already.

3. cannot find any of my old content 

4. everything seems to be double spaced

5. Question: is this upgrade for people using the site on cells and other small devices? just curious. It is much harder to read on my computer.

As I understand it, the upgrade is ongoing and will be ongoing for a few days as the board rebuilds itself. Some things are broken now but should sort themselves out over the next few days.

​I've been restarting apache and/or mysql every 15-20 minutes for the past several hours as I try to get things optimized.  Stuff is going to get lost when I'm doing that.  

Those who were around for the last major update of IPB have seen this all before.  It took a couple years to work out all the major bugs last time and I expect that to be the case again.

​Check your notification settings.  

Old PMs are being rebuilt like everything else.  They should look normal after that.  The new normal anyway.

Signatures don't work on mobile view, which is what you'd seeing on a iPad. You can see then in desktop version. There should be a toggle somewhere but I can't remember where I saw it. 

Memory problems make this a never-ending search quest.

Have the blog privacy settings changed?  My blog and other blogs that were previously visible only to other members, seem to be visible to anyone viewing the site / possibly the internet.  

Is there some setting that I/we have to change?

Yeah, I just checked my private blog, and it still exists as a private club blog. However, I'm noticing that there are just two types of blogs now - private club and everyone. VE said above that he fixed it so that "everyone" now just means members and not guests which is very good. Thanks, VE!

​The only difference between the standard and mobile view is that mobile users can't view the sidebar.  There's a new content link right under the search box.

The new software uses some fairly cutting edge javascript so if you're on a tablet that's several years old it might not be able to display it.

I'm having a hell of a time typing. I'm really disappointed about the blogs, it was my only real reason for staying here and I can't use it, or see any of my profile. 

I guess I'll just not come back for a week or 2. I would log out but can't.

​There is no mobile version.  The one version is designed to scale to any display.  The ads kinda screw it up some though.  Once you get off the main index screen it should be a lot better.

My screen also dims, but I have to swipe the screen from left to right in order to see the full menu screen.

Then I have to swipe left to right to see the list of notifications.

I'm going to keep trying to get it working better for mobile.  I have some idea of what to do but it's going to be a whole day project and I'm pretty much spent at the moment.

​We're in the process of figuring out what we can and can't see regarding the blogs.  Admins have never had any way to distinguish what blogs are what.  It's a contributing factor in why I don't read blogs much.

I'm guessing they are gone for the moment, but should come back.  Somebody will make a mod to put them back if nothing else.  

I haven't taken the first look at blog mods for this version.

This is a really young platform.  It took nearly five years for the last version of IPB to get to where it was.  Everything that's missing will be back eventually.

Unless you're paying for $5k enterprise web applications, this is the pattern web software development has always followed.  The developers work on it for years until it's finished then start over once browser, database and programming language development make it obsolete.  Following design trends that keep search engines happy is also a factor.  

In case anyone didn't notice, we're presently showing ads for Asian mail order bride sites.  Using outdated web technology doesn't encourage advertisers.

If a website stays the same for more than a couple years, it gets left behind.

I cannot figure out how to do that now. I can see only what I posted. 

I cannot try different options because I get the error code saying I must wait after everything i do, whether it is posting or looking for my content. Then the page gets stuck and I am back at start gate, not knowing what to try.

water, if you look at the sidebar on the left you can choose what type of new content you want to see. The default seems to be only your own, but you can change that. 

Yeah, the whole not being able to see middle pages is annoying but I suspect that it's because that part of the database is currently rebuilding. Or at least, it was rebuilding when I checked a few hours ago.

Thank you JT, I am not known for my patience. lol  I use the "My Content" to check and see if someone responded on a topic I posted in. It only shows the topics I posted in but shows them all, no matter who responded last. 

btw: Checked out the boards on hubs pc, not logged in.

You can see all of our profiles, all of our activity as a guest. In the older software, that was blocked unless you logged into CB's.  Is it possible to change that at some point?

I have an iPad mini a year and a half old with updated iOS, Safari, etc. So not a dinosaur.

I  tried on three different browsers.  All I see at the top on any of them is the star, magnifying glass and menu dropdown.  Nothing else. I'm attaching a screenshot.

On Safari I also can't reply.

I can't comment on my blog for some reason. And every time I go to my blog the page says "Aw snap, can't load this page", or something similar. This is in Chrome for Android. 

Another thing is if I can type, the words often double up or do some other crazy thing for no reason, and the place for typing constantly freezes (so does every other page). 

Right now my phone is behaving like it has been slowed down a heap. Very weird considering it runs on KitKat 4.4.2 and I have only had it for a few months.

I am really having a hard time with this upgrade. I feel so lost here. Trying not to get depressed about this, but I feel like my crazyboards  is gone replaced with an impostor who only shows me what he wants when he wants.

I figured out how to find my notifications and such, also, so that's good. 

I might have to check the state of my CPU, though, I don't know if that is dysfunctional. 

Last time I was here, before my nap, the pages didn't have the number buttons on them, but I haven't checked that yet, so I don't know about that yet.

You get the star on mobile or after you resize your screen to a small enough size.

The whole thing uses "responsive design" which means everything adapts itself to the size of your display, automatically changing page elements as needed.

What WAS happening was if I tapped the box labelled username, the keyboard would pop up, the box would clear and show a cursor and then half a second later the cursor would disappear and the box would show its default state and my keyboard would disappear.

I can't reply to the New Content thread - this belongs there:

By default it only looks to topics you've posted in.  You have to change the settings for it.  There should be something on the left that lets you do that.

 

I've been looking for that something on the left. I don't think there is a way to change this. Hopefully, I am wrong.

On the left-facing sidebar under *New Content are several options including: all new content; topics; blog entries; images. A bit further down the screen are selections for filters and time period.

If that does not give you enough options use the More button and select activity stream...

ETA: I am probably in the minority as I like the new interfaces and options. I am less than thrilled by the "allow more time" when going from one page to the next, but can work with that restriction.

I get a notice to 'Wait X seconds before making this request' or something along those lines.

You need to select the correct options in the left column for New Content to work as it used to.  

The rebuild is done and Google is saying our mobile usability rocks.   Everything is faster for me than it used to be in every browser I've tried including on my Kindle Fire.

couple of issues.

1. Guests can see our profiles 

2. When you go to "Activity Stream" you cannot look at anything because you immediately get a time out.

3. there is no New Content choice for guests

4. Still VERY slow on my PC at work

5. Why is everything still double spaced?

6. Why do I have to wait a minute to post a blog entry if I have just posted a reply to a topic? Is there no way to stop this?

#2 and #6 are flood control issues. Before you click on a new page or new function count to 20...

#4 would seem to be the computer, not the site software.

Everything is not double spaced. Double space occurs when enter on your computer is used. I rather like it as it prevents those annoying wall-o-text posts, at least sometime.

Guests can see and can use the Activity Stream function without difficulty. That seems to be a minor complaint until every other complaint is fixed.

It's a hair slow for me this morning.  I'll see what I can figure out.

This version of the software was written with the computers and browsers people are going to be using three years from now in mind more than the ones people were using three years ago.  It's an early version of a platform that's intended to still be in use a long time from now.  People with older hardware, particularly mobile hardware, might have trouble using it.

It works fine on my laptop which is a glorified netbook. 

Older tablets have already been identified as a problem.
