bittenkittenx
So I was on depakote when I first found out about my epilepsy, but my me talk health doc said it was causing my syncope (random fainting for no reason) to get worse because the way it interacted with my other meds. So he put me on 5mgs up to 3x a day of Valium. I'm a vet tech. We only use Valium or pentabarbital for seizures in animals. So I knew it worked, but didn't know he was putting me on it for my seizures until recently (thought it was mainly for my bad panic attacks!) He said he chose the Valium so it hit 2 birds with one stone. But am I the only one?!
Sloane
Hello Tabi! Welcome to CB I'm kind of new to the world of Epilepsy. As in, my Neurologist just started taking my seizures seriously and treating them with medication earlier this year (even though I've been having seizures for years). So my point is, when it comes to medication experiences I have very little to offer What I can say though, is that I'm not surprised if Valium is helping your Seizures. Benzodiazepine's weirdly have Anticonvulsant properties to the brain. Not sure how many people have really had success using it as a preventive medication nowadays, but I have heard Valium and other Benzodiazepines being used to treat status in Epilepsy successfully many of times.I personally would be weary of taking just a Benzodiazepine as treatment for my Seizures, especially on its own. As to when just skipping a single dose, a increase risk of seizures is likely to happen. In matter of fact I had couple of seizures because of skipping dosages of Clonazepam (taken for Social Anxiety), before I knew I had a seizure disorder/was predisposed to seizures.
