iwishididnthaveanhedonia
hey everyone.Just have a question regarding seroquel and weight gain. Has anyone noticed weight gain while on 100mg of seroquel? I am taking it for sleep and am trying hard to lose weight and wouldn't want the med to impede my progress. I'm thinking I can take other meds for sleep that are maybe weight neutral if it does cause weight gain, such as klonopin.thanks!
uncomfortable thoughts
Taking 100mg I would start having dreams about food, I can't control myself on Seroquel but at least it doesn't give me Akathisia or Dystonia like most of the other antipsichotics that I have tried, for me, seroquel is good for sleeping and bringing my euphoria down.At this moment, stable as I'm, only having a trouble to sleep due to changing in my mood stabilizer, I'm taking only 25mg of seroquel and still, it's being 1 month since I've being take it and I've already gained weight and worst, I tried to change "my sleeping pill", I have 2mg klonopins, 10mg valiums and 2mg xanaxes. For my organism, they can't compare to the sedation that even 25mg seroquel brings me. I'm trying to see my doctor earlier (I have an appointment only on the second week of next month). To obtain the same sedation of 25mg of seroquel i have to take 5mg to 10mg of valium at 7 p.m and after that, 9 or 10 p.m a 2mg xanax, so I'm not doing that, unfortunately, I'm putting weight instead of building benzo dependence. (like mine isn't already high enough for both problems).Did you gained weight on risperidone? I took it a long ago and gained little weight compared to Seroquel and I guess I'll see if that's an option for me with my doctor. Abilify didn't work for me (Akathisia), here in Brazil we don't have some of the newest second generation antipsychotics or they're really expansive. Velvet Elvis
I gained 100 pounds on 200mgs.It worked better for my OCD, anxiety and insomnia than anything else I've ever taken. It was killing me though so I had to stop taking it.
iwishididnthaveanhedonia
wow, horror stories! thanks for your replies. i think ill try to ask pdoc for 25mg of seroquel as well if the klonopin doesn't work. She told me there's a dosage dependency between seroquel and weight gain Did you gained weight on risperidone? no, i didn't gain weight for risperidone. cosima
i personally don't think it had any effect on my weight/binge eating/problems in that area. although, that could be because it sedated me so heavily that i couldn't think straight enough to even conceptualize food or notice an increase in weight struggles. i couldn't stay on it because the zombification was too intense. uncomfortable thoughts
no, i didn't gain weight for risperidone. This is probably going to be my next solution, now I don't remember if I could take risperidone without taking Akineton. I'm really sacred of antipsychotics I hate getting Akathisia and Dystonia, they're terrible, almost died of haloperidol extrapyramidal side effects and intoxication.i personally don't think it had any effect on my weight/binge eating/problems in that area. although, that could be because it sedated me so heavily that i couldn't think straight enough to even conceptualize food or notice an increase in weight struggles. i couldn't stay on it because the zombification was too intense. My insomnia is so bad that I start binge eating as the Seroquel is starting to work, I brush my teeth hit the bed, dream about food, wake in a quest to find those foods. (this is 100mg/200mg and up, until the present moment, never passed 300mg). On 25mg is enough to erase whatever my dinner was and make stomach brand new, next day, I take a double breakfast. To be honest, for me it's a good drug for instant managing mood and putting me to sleep but yet to see in terms of actually helping with depression and delusion. (never used in a acute psychotic episode or manic episode).
Always Unstable
I have some weight that I'm trying to lose from other previous meds . But I have found that I've remained pretty weight neutral on Seroquel. I started on 100mg for sleep but then got increased to 400mg. I exercise a few times a week and I really have to control my cravings though.

AnnaBanana
I gained 40 lbs in 4 months on 150mg of seroquel.
Wonderful.Cheese
I've gained probably 50 lbs on years of seroquel. I take or took 600-800 mg of it split throughout the day time and night. I gained the other 50 lbs on zyprexa in a shorter amount of time. Ugh. If if you are looking for a sleep med there are weight neutral options like you said. Like a benzo (if your pdoc will prescribe one) or something like lunesta. It's a hard choice but for me it's killing me yes, but I'd be back at the state hospital long term again if I were to stop taking it again. That's a rough path that I was headed towards. The staff at the hospital said it was worth it for me to keep taking it so I'm trying to have faith in that. It's not easy.
