Wonderful.Cheese
I shouldn't be wanting to stop meds. I know I know. But....I HATE taking seroquel three times a day. It makes me super super hungry. I can't stand how hungry I feel and I am never satiated no matter how much I eat. Today I only took it twice a day and I feel kinda shitty to be honest. I spent $65 at a thrift shop of all fucking places. I do regret this. I feel very shitty about myself. I really feel like I don't care if I'm alive or not anymore. I'm so sick of myself and what I put people through. I aksed for the XR like 3 times but no one listens to me. No one listens to the crazy lady. So whatever. I don't know what the fuck to do anymore. I'm going to go to bed I guess.
The Right Honourable Jimmy
Honestly, you'll regret it if you come off Seroquel... My doctor took me off it cold-turkey and I've put a complain against himSince I have come off it my sleep has been utterly fucked...its 3:10 AM right now I have college tomorrow..that's how fucked it is...and then sleep aid is not very helpfulI'm also quite explosive to be honest since I've come off it (occasionally) Yes I have lost weight, yes surprisingly my thought processing is much different (mostly in a positive way) but....I had two episodes, one manic and one depressed since January and if I didn't had the people around me to support me, I could possibly be dead or worse,My college attendance since January has dropped from 90% to 56%. If you honestly think you need it from a logical point of view and you trust your pdoc...please take it.
dragonfly23
Hey Wonderful, I take mine IR all at once at night before bed. 500MG. I have not gained weight and not been more hungry at all. Is there a reason they want you to be taking it throughout the day?
Always Unstable
I was having the opposite issue, my pdoc kept wanting to put me on the XR but I wanted to stay on the IR, lol. But he gave up now, he's satisfied that I'm fine with immediate release. I take mine, 400 mg, once a day. I take it at night before bed. Hunger wise, I found it was an issue for a few weeks but then it subsided and I don't really have any issues with it now. If anything, I'm eating less eg. All I ate today was a burrito from taco bell, a piece of chocolate and a biscuit. I've pretty much stayed weight neutral.I really hope that they start listening to you Cheese. Wonderful.Cheese
Thanks guys. I am feeling ok and will be ok. I sure feel a lot better on seroquel. I don't know why they want me taking it 3 times a day. I am going to get up the nerve to call and ask why.
Wonderful.Cheese
And I just found this. "Elimination of quetiapine is mainly via hepatic metabolism with a mean terminal half-life of about 6 hours within the proposed clinical dose range. Steady-state concentrations are expected to be achieved within two days of dosing." www.drugs.com › ppa › quetiapine-fuma...
rowan77
Cheese, Interesting that the terminal half life is only 6 hours! Maybe that's why your pdoc wants you to take it 3 times daily. When I was on the IR version I took it twice daily.I now take the XR version and like it much better. Once daily dosing suits me!I try to take my Seroquel as late as possible it causes me to feel really hungry. If I'm asleep I don't feel the hunger, but sometimes I awaken hungry but try to fight it. Occasionally I venture downstairs for a bite to eat but I rarely do that anymore
Gearhead
I've taken the IR for sleep since about 2003 and never found it to cause weight gain, but that was a pretty small dose, like I'm back on now. I took the XR for about 3 years and put on 25 pounds, which I'm now working on losing by switching to Abilify. I don't like the effects of Abilify much, but I have to lose the weight. In my opinion, if you're going to try to keep at a steady blood serum level, the XR works better. I took that with breakfast, didn't find it sedating, and loved how I felt. Oh, and I took 50 mgs with my bedtime meds. I have a.m. and p.m. meds anyway. IcePrincess88
I could never take the IR Seroquel during the day. It would knock my ass out, so I would take my dose at night. I'm now on the XL version, but I still take it at night because it has a slight sedating effect. My pdoc recommends I take it at exactly 7pm WITHOUT food. Why without food? I have no idea. But the answer to your question is, I take it one time a day, before bed. When I was on the IR Seroquel I had really bad "munchies" from it and gained a bit of weight from the night eating I was doing. That feeling is considerable less with XL Seroquel. The only real downside I can see to the XL version is that it is very expensive. It cost $667 for a months supply for me, my insurance's copay is only $3 thankfully. If you have good insurance it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!
San
I was on Seroquel IR 300mg x 3/day (900mg total) during college. I slept through classes. XR wasn't out where I am yet. It was rough.I take Seroquel XR 300mg x 2/day (300mg XR in the am, 300mg XR in the pm) and I'm not sedated. I'm a bit hungrier, but I'm off most of the meds that killed my appetite. Always Unstable
About the cost of the XR you can ask pdoc for a discount card thingy for it. My Pdoc has a whole bunch of them in his draw. He gave me one when I was going to change from IT to XR.
