I was recently prescribed more lamotrigine. Has anyone had small cuts on their lips as a side effect? I wonder if I'm biting my lip in my sleep. I can't think of any other reasons. They're not sores, and I don't have an STD. Everywhere I look online mentions Herpes and cold sores, but these are tiny cuts. I'm going to call the pharmacist tomorrow, but I thought someone might know. Thanks!

p.s. - this is my first post here. I hope I did okay.

Congrats on your first post. You did fine!

I have never had that side effect of lamotrigine, and I have never heard of it. That doesn't mean it isn't possible. It just means I haven't heard of it. What is the orientation of the cuts? Do they match up with your teeth?

When I started lamogotrine, it dried me out, terribly. Could it be possible that your lips are just dry and cracking?

I agree with this. I didn't have it with Lamictal but I have had other meds in the past that gave me dry mouth and chapped lips as start up side effects.

Thanks so much for your helpful replies. everyone. I'm beginning to think I should just use Blistex, too. I might be biting my lip in my sleep, or maybe my mouth gets so dry that they just split. Never had this issue before, but lamotrigine is a great med for me, so I'm not going to complain too much. :devlish:

They do a little bit, and they're very small. They look like two red spots, but they are teeny cuts. Probably just splits from having a dry mouth. Maybe I'll just sleep with an orange in my mouth (see profile pic) ;)

Thanks again for all of your replies. I used lip balm more than I normally would and they're gone! I freaked out at first because they were so noticeable and it looked like something else was happening.  :nerdy:
