How much Amitriptyline(Elavil) works for you for sleep>

Recommended Posts

I have a pdoc appointment tomorrow, so I'm wondering how much Amitriptyline(Elavil) do you guys take to work for sleep? I take Seroquel XR 400mgs and started Elavil at 25mgs for 3 days, but have been at 50mgs for about 2 months now. I feel like it's losing it's effectiveness so I'm considering asking for it to be upped.

If you are like me, you'll build tolerance to elavil super fast.

It's good for sleep when it works, but I have to keep upping the dose.

Also, it's a TCA, so be very careful on going up on this. (Lethal dose is close to the therapeutic dose)

I think your right. I've been on 50mgs for about 2 months, and it's already not doing as good of job as before. I'm thinking of asking for it to be upped at my next pdoc app on Monday.

The OP is taking 50 mg. One of the great things about TCAs is that a simple blood test will tell you if you're in the therapeutic range or not (as an AD).

I've been taking between 200-300 mg for decades. It'll still knock me out pretty consistently.

you and probably have different systemic enzymes breaking down meds.

I envy you, you probably don't build tolerance to sleep meds like I do.

I feel like I'm a blackhole which build tolerance to all the meds thrown at me.
