I have different groups of "friends" on facebook. Most, I don't know. I met them through on-line games. I try not to get political or controversial (I save that for elsewhere). I am not sure what to do when they say things that I feel are racist. It's worse when it is someone I know.

I don't want to debate the issue- I may say something to the one man that i know.

Like I said, I don't know most of them, so it isn't a big loss to unfriend.

I think sending a private message saying you disapprove of their behavior is an appropriate response. There might be unintended consequences if you do it in an open post.

It's a delicate balance, because if someone said that in a public place such as work, you would probably respond immediately. However, since social media is quasi-public (you choose who you friend and what posts you see), it's probably a little different.

But, as you said, it's easier to just unfriend.
