geekything
Hi all,I'm currently in-patient, so this is a bit urgent. My p-doc has bumped me up to 75mg of lamotrigine (after 6-weeks!). I'm still not sure I'm feel any effect to speak of.Two questions:(1) What dosage started to provide therapeutic effect for you?(2) Was there any delay (days/weeks) from getting to that dose before you felt effect?I'm literally going back to the psych ward in 45-minutes :-o Edited August 3, 2015 by geekything FIxed horrible grammer in title
Gearhead
I felt something by 50 mgs, but I don't remember exactly what, and my notes aren't handy to check. I found LTG titration activating; many do. But LTG is very much a sweet spot med, and for some it you don't feel much of anything 'til you hit that spot. The usual therapeutic dose for mood stabilization is between 150-200 mgs. For depression it can be lower, sometimes 100 mgs.
aura
I wish I had something helpful to offer, but honestly Lamictal hasn't helped me at all. I hope you have better luck with it. I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure 75mg isn't quite the standard therapeutic dose yet.
geekything
My p-doc mentioned stopping at 100mg and assessing the situation and doing blood tests to see what serum levels look like before ramping up.I say, just give me the 200mg already! Thanks for the feedback. Literally on my way back to the nut house now.
crtclms
Good luck. I know the titration is tough, and Lamictal isn't for everyone. But if you take a look at people's signatures, you'll see a *lot* of us are on Lamictal. I hope it works for you, because if it does, I think you will be pleased. rowan77
All the best with the titration. I started to feel some improvement at 100mg and felt really well on 200mg. Last winter my depression came back and my pdoc bumped my dose up to 300mg and my depression gradually lifted. My mood is mostly very stable. I really hope you get a good response from it
saintalto
200 mg is what I take. I can't remember how long it too before something started working because i've been on lamictal for 10 years.
crtclms
Oh, I take 400mg, but I started at 175mg, and went up over a couple of years. My tests show I don't absorb Lamictal very well, so my blood level isn't that high. I could go up to 600mg if I needed to. That is unusual, but there are other people on the boards who are at 600mg.And I should have moved this to mood stabilizers already, so I'm going to do it now. Sorry it is late in the thread, but you may get some new eyes.
jt07
It always took 1-2 weeks after a dose increase for me to feel any changes other than the wild mood swings and anxiety due to the titration itself.
melissaw72
I'm also on 400 mg now, which works the best for me. I've gotten blood levels done and they have always been low. But at this dose I do ok.
dragonfly23
250MG here. It took a while to get to this level. Titration was hard on me. It does help I guess. I take it more for seizure on control, but it does double duty as a BP depression med. I also titrated very slowly upward. There are risks if you move up to fast. 25mg every two weeks if I remember correctly.
