For those of you who are/have been on Wellbutrin, i need your assistance.

Recommended Posts

I have been on Wellbutrin 150 mg on 3 weeks and 5 days, just 4 days ago i started to feel the positive effect. My depression has definitely lifted, i enjoy life again and i've got more energy and motivation. But the depression is still there, i'm still not where i used to be. So i want to try increasing the dosage of Wellbutrin to 300mg to make the positive effect even stronger. But my doctor has told me she's seen patients get emotionally flat/lose their creativity on 300 mg, so i am here to ask any of you who are currently taking Wellbutrin 300 mg or have been on it before. Did you feel any sign of emotional flatness or lost creativity? Or did it make you feel even better than on 150 mg?

No negative stories about the medication in general please, i'm only interested in hearing how you felt when you were on 300 mg of Wellbutrin.

I feel better. More energized and upbeat. I am on a lot of meds that can/do have ad effects (lamictal, lexapro, Wellbutrin, abilify, seroquel) and I still feel "blah" often but not depressed.  I wouldn't call it feeling flat. It is a big improvement.

300mg of swellbutrin is a good dose for me, especially in the winter when things are harder.

I actually have the energy to do my creative fun things instead of being a lump.

when I bump up to 300 I do have some increases in anxiety that resolve in a couple of weeks.

I've been on 450 mg of Wellbutrin, and it has never make me flat or impeded my creativity. I've been on SSRIs, however, that did flatten me out. Wellbutrin is not known to flatten people.

That's what i thought too, so i find it really strange that my doc claims to have had patients being flattened on 300 mg of Wellbutrin. Because that's usually what high doses of SSRI's do.

I've never heard of anyone feeling "flat" on WB.  Like VE, I've been on it for years, and 300XL works great for me.  The other antidepressants that I tried didn't work as well, and some of them made me  feel sleepy and lethargic.

I was on 75mg's of Wellbutrin twice a day, until last week when my pdoc changed it to 200mgs of Wellbutrin SR. I do feel better the higher the dosage gets. I'm really hoping she'll up it at my next appointment. I know I've seen a few people on this site that said they didn't really "feel" the Wellbutrin until the 300mgs+ range. I'm pretty much in the same situation you are. I feel better, but I feel like I could better if the Wellbutrin goes up. Good luck with everything!

I've been taking Wellbutrin XL on and off since 2006.

@150mg - I was still very tearful and depressed, also quite agitated.

@300mg - I felt a lot better than at 150mg, stayed on this dose for several years. Definitely put a big dent in my depression.

@450mg - My current dose. Helps a lot, gives me some energy so that I'm not in sloth mode all the time. A couple weeks ago when I was on vacation, I accidentally dropped one of my 150mg XL tablets and lost it (I take 3 of them in the morning), and I really felt a big difference on the lower dose, in a bad way. I was feeling very tired and slow.

I'm only on 200mgs or Wellbutrin SR, but I know I would be doing better with a higher dosage. She didn't want to up it at my last appointment because she upped one of my sleeping pills, and said she only wanted to change one thing at a time. I will be pushing for an increase next time I see her. Is the Wellbutrin XL better than the IR or the SR? If it is, then I might ask to switch over to XL as well.

I've never tried any other formula. The XL is more popular because you take it all at once in the morning vs. 2 or 3 times a day. It's easier to be compliant that way. The XL is more expensive if that matters to you (Medicare donut hole, etc.) but it just makes life easier.

Thanks. I have Medicaid though, so regardless how much it is, I have a $3 copay for any prescriptions. I'm def going to look into getting on the XL kind.

I never felt flat on Wellbutrin. I took doses up to 450mg. It was pretty activating for me, and increased my anxiety, so I was reduced to 300mg, and later back to 150mg. I'm not as activated now, but definitely not flat, and it helps. I take XL.

At 450mg I was hypomanic and anxious as all hell.

no, none. If anything, my creativity INCREASED because my depression lifted. I still beat up my paintings  but I had the courage to have my very first art show after I went on wellbutrin. (added lex later.)  Actually never heard of anyone being flat on wellbutrin. It is an uppy type of med.

After all these years, I still take the same cocktail. Bupropion and escitalopram. I am blessed.

  • 2 weeks later...

FYI, if you take 450 a day, you shouldn't drink at all.  My pdoc knows I drink a fair bit and is reluctant to give me that much unless I'm really in the pit.  The past few times I've found that increasing it to 450 for a few months gets my head back above water, after which I go back down to 300.
