Evey
I was wondering if anyone ever got a stomach ulcer from lithium or had one irritated by Lithium
geekything
Irritation? Yes. Ulcer? No.Lithium carbonate is alkali not acidic -- it won't "burn a hole" in your stomach and may actually lower the pH of your stomach when you take it.Maybe you have a heliobacter pylori infestation and lithium's exacerbating that? Your doctor can help diagnose that.

Your p-doc should be made aware of any medications prescribed.I suffered from stomach issues for years....it sucks. Hope you feel better.

I've been taking an acid reducer. Thank you!
melissaw72
I have had ulcers in my life, but when I had the big one, I was on Lithium at the time. I don't recall that specifically bothering it though. It might have contributed to though, not sure. I changed around what I ate, and took a prescribed med (?carafate) as well.Good luck at your GI DR appt on the 25th ... I hope s/he has answers for you. Ulcers suck. Thank you!Yes ... but I don't think the lithium ( for me) caused the ulcer. I was under a lot of stress at the time and on no GERD meds. Gastric ulcer ... it was in my stomach. The main symptoms were abdominal pain and burning. Like the doubling over pain. Gastroscopy confirmed it.
