been on wellbutrin 13 days and counting

Recommended Posts

I have been on Wellbutrin Sr 100 mg almost two weeks now no side effects I would of had side effects by now in the beginning of taking this med you would think at least that's what the Dr. says also The Nurse I see every now and then said side effects would show up in the beginning of  taking any med. I haven't noticed any weight  change or much of a change anyhow.I am more energized and not sleeping as many hours as I had before I was sleeping maybe 14 to 16 hours a night now its down a little to 10 to 12 hours a night.Every little bit of change helps.I probably wont experience the positive effects until a full four weeks of being on Wellbutrin. One Positive effect I am already having is a decrease in appetite it seems I get full fast and I am not as hungry which wasn't the case before I added Wellbutrin I still take Abilify5mg  which will make you eat a lot and be hungry all the time but I am not anymore. Will keep everyone posted after the full four weeks is up on how the wellbutrin is working for me.

I'm glad it's helping you with minimal unwanted side effects. However, 100 mg is still a very low dose and you have plenty of room to go up if you need to. I think the average dose for most people is 300 mg per day.

@jt07,@dragonfly My Dr. didn't want to have me at a high dose he said the higher the dose it could cause seizures so I decided I better not take that chance and stay at 100 mg of Wellbutrin.I also take abilify5mg and Lexapro10mg Why do I take three meds well I didn't want to stop taking what has worked for me for 12 years or so and I needed a Little boost in energy and that's where the Wellbutrin comes in.

Keep in mind though that 4 weeks might not be enough to see if the wellbutrin is fully working or not for you.  I'd give it at least 6-8 weeks.

For 300 mg of Wellbutrin, the seizure risk is not much higher if at all than for other antidepressants. When you double that dose (600 mg) is where you get into seizure territory.

Is your doctor a psychiatrist?

My main side effects from Welly are major anxiety.

That took a bit to kick in. It's bad now. Going off it. At 150mg, there are no physical side effects, just the anxiety, which is less than when I was on 450mg. I found it fairly side-effect free, fortunately.

And if you're going weeks without side effects, consider yourself lucky, and don't question it, imo.

I was taking wellbutrin 150 mg twice a day, with no side effects. I was also taking prozac 60mg once a day, trileptal 450 mg once a day, and elavil 100 mg at night. I did awesome on this for a year, then started sliding into depression and couldn't shake it for many months. My Pdoc raised my wellbutrin to 300 mg twice a day because I had no problems at all on the 150mg. On 300mg twice a day I had tons of nervous energy, couldn't think straight (like even count objects or focus) or tell when I needed to eat. At first I thought I wasn't eating at regular intervals and it was my blood sugar going too low that was the problem. I started having blackouts, where I would lose time, and my hands shook noticeably. I thought I was going insane (literally) and I was terrified of myself. I blacked out at my house one evening when my mother in law was staying with us. She found me unconscious in the floor and thought I might of had a seizure. She couldn't wake me so she called 911. I was coming around a little when the paramedics got there( my mother in law told me later, she had to slap the crap out of me several times to get me to even rouse). 3 days in the hospital, immediately stopped wellbutrin, went through LOTS of tests and procedures and they couldn't find any signs or medical reason for a seizure.  Went back to my Pdoc and we went over my medical history again (we did thoroughly when I started with her of course). I missed a insignificant and long ago head injury that happened when I was 10.  I got hit on the top of my head with a small boulder( Really). I had to have stitches  and part of my hair shaved off.  The doc said possible concussion, but since I did not lose consciousness it would be fine. I'm 40, so 30 years ago that was standard medical protocol. I still have a small dent in the top of my skull from this, but my hair is thick and long so I forgot about it. The Pdoc told me gently 30 years ago medicine was not as advanced yadayadayada.  An injury ,that caused an indention so deep into the skull that it never fully filled in, was not considered insignificant by today's' standards.  Any previous head injury greatly increases your chance of seizure on wellbutrin, especially at 600 mg a day.  I am now taking my cocktail of 150 mg wellbutrin twice a day, 300 trileptal twice a day, 60 mg prozac once a day and 100 elavil at night. I add melatonin if i still can't turn off my brain enough to sleep.  I'm still moderately depressed and anxious, but after that saga I'm afraid to add anything else. I'm trying to workout and I eat a whole lot of chocolate. Mmmmmm chocolate muffins.

300 twice a day, not just 300

600mg a day is a lot of Wellbutrin. I hallucinated on it. As it is, I had to get a waiver for my next insurance company when I wanted to take 450mg, because they claimed there was no difference in effect between 400 and 450mg.
