Rabbit37
Ack! Can they make this stuff any more chalky? I can barely choke it down every night, I've been tempted to smear Vaseline on it.Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice?
melissaw72
One thing I can think of at the moment is to put soft butter around it ... personally I would never do this, but I have seen people do it and it works. Is it IR (I am assuming yes because you said it is powdery)? If so, if you can, (you can ask your pharmacist), crush the pills and put them in applesauce. I've done that before for some meds (with the exception of the powdered lamictal I used to take). Rabbit37
Thanks, Melissa, two great suggestions that I hadn't thought of! I'll try the butter first (heh, probably better than Vaseline), it's just so dry, I almost started gagging last night. I'll also talk to my pharmacist, he's a great guy, about crushing them, that's an excellent suggestion. My daughter can't swallow pills, so I had to open her capsules and sprinkle them on pudding every morning. Thanks!
melissaw72
You're welcome!Oh man, yes, better than vaseline! I know the feeling of pills being dry and chalky and big. The lamictal was like this for me, and I refused to take it anymore. So my pdoc prescribed the ODT (oral disintegrating tablets) kind (the ones that go under your tongue and dissolve pretty much right away). They don't taste the best, but MUCH better than the chalky ones.
Rabbit37
The butter worked! My husband was shaking his head and laughing at me, but it made the trazodone so much easier to swallow. Thanks for the tip!
