TheWorldAtLarge
I have an appointment to get a dose of invega sustena (xeplion) on Tuesday. I really don't want it. I'm on a court order to take it, and the social worker said they would have to call the judge up if I decide not to get it. So I thought I had to persuade the doctors to discontinue the shot. ...J. can't do it because he's not the real doctor, so I have to see Dr. A, and she's booked until january (!). So I called the nurses desk and left a voicemail saying I needed to get on her cancellations list. But now that I realize all this i'm trying to really figure out if I really need to get off the med, I made a list of all the reasons and came up with it makes me kind of lethargic in the mornings, and it's difficult to get moving. It also distorts the way I hear things, sounding off and on at times and then fragmented and nonsensical perhaps? Then I start to realize that maybe that's just the thought disorder making me feel this way? I'm unsure, the doctors are constantly writing on paperwork that I have a lack of insight. What will get better if I stop taking the medication? I need good reasons. Being able to concentrate better in class? and have more energy in the morning. And what else?
San
I had issues with invega sustenna, which I was on by my own will, so fortunately I easily came off it. It's got a long half life. It was great for a month, and then the cognitive effects kicked in. I kept almost blacking out when standing up, I kept stuttering while talking, could barely put a sentence together, stuff like that.My mood was great, psychosis was gone. But the dropping of blood pressure, constant dizziness and cognitive effects were terrible. It could be the thought disorder. I found it really, really helped me with mood and psychosis (I have schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type) and I was on the highest dose, which is 150mg (its dosed differently in the US and Canada, from what I've seen, I'm in Canada) but I did get a lot of side effects that are generally uncommon. There are other depot injections, newer ones like Abilify Maintaina, which could be less sedating (often Abilify is more activating than Invega, but it was too activating for me, even on a low, oral dose) and Risperdal Consta (which is older than Invega Sustenna, same base ingredient, but I found I had less side effects than Invega Sustenna) which is dosed every other week. Those are a few. Then there are typicals like Haldol. If you feel the side effects are really bad, and not going away, because usually they do, but Invega Sustenna does have the long half life (25-29 days) so it can take ages for them to go away, then discuss another medication or discontinuing it. I can't tell you to stop it, or keep going, just give my experience, which wasn't that great. But there are side effects to every med, and sluggishness/lethargy - well, it depends on how badly it affects your daily functioning. I couldn't function well on it.
TheWorldAtLarge
I managed to get in to see the doctor on friday, and she was supposed to be booked until January! I made a chart of my energy levels which are decreasing as I've been feeling sluggishness in the morning, very difficult to get moving, despite the fact that I wake up almost all the time at 5:30 in the morning, I still feel lethargic as ever. I'm at a loss of what to do, so I want to talk to the doc about something that will help me out, I don't know what, am i wasting her time?

TheWorldAtLarge
hey- did you make a recovery from the effects of invega sustenna? Thanks -Hello, I asked the doctor if she could take me off the invega, but she said no and wouldn't allow it. She did however decrease the dosage down to 117 mg. I still feel lethargic all day. I'm not sure what to do now. Are you or were you on invega yourself? And you didn't like it, huh?
